Best mend of lockdown.

Post by junior »

I have mended a few things during lock down, but this one gave me great pleasure.

Mainly as a kind chap called George gave it to me just before he died. So its done 15 yrs of good service for me.

The rubber had given up sealing in the cap and I found it also held the whole think together rather cleverly. The rubber is of a size that ensures you can just push the pin through and holds the whole cap together under tension. :D

The only problem was that the rubber is quite specific in its properties as its soft to seal, but also tough so it does not collapse. Fuel pipe was too hard and others were just out one way or another.

So cutting the center out of an old Sud ht lead cap was just soft enough and so far has worked very well. I hate dragging round a compressor and all the noise when a good pump gives a bit of exercise and efficiently sorts that one annoying tyre with the slow leak.

I love the old Dunlop pumps. I’ve just inherited a Dunlop major. I think it’ll make a good weekend Restoration

Regarding the rubber insert you may find the replacement ones for a cycle track pump are what you're looking for.......Schrader not Presta obviously.

Yes, thanks, but I was not finding anything, but Chinese rubbish for track pumps. Perhaps looking in the wrong place.
