Bloody 'ell, we are a sad bunch of muppets. I was watching it as well !!
I can not believe none of you mentioned the 308 gt4 parked outside.
I also spotted two 124 spiders , Beta saloon and coupe as well as all the old Rollers. :geek:
We will have to rename the thread "Photo'd today off my TV"

Sorry Kev, just noticed you did mention the Ferrari.
Just shows that at that time everywhere was so run down, but those cars must have been expensive at the time, but they were about.
I had to laugh when Carter had to climb on the back of the Triumph to see if they could do the distance quicker by cutting through the park and the rider ran through a shrub that nearly fetched them both off. Or did you not see that one?

Yes, things looked bleak didn't they, like everywhere needed a good tidy up!
The other thing that really stood out for me was the smog

Any more guesses on the up and coming actor in the last pix?

Also, just read online that the great Sir Stirling Moss sadly died today
Never met him but seemed like a cool guy.

Yes sad news about sir Stirling Moss RIP .
Remember watching Goodwood festival. Must of been 15 years ago. He was racing Martin brundal in a E type and an Aston . They were flat out side by side for about five or six laps .until mosses car broke down . He was in his mid 70's .what a racer 8-)

No idea on the actor....

I bought my dad a crayon drawing of Moss post race, it came from a small artists stand at race retro a few years ago. The old boy must have been 85 years old and said he knew moss.

Crayon sounds strange but it’s a great picture, and when on the wall the colours are strong and moss is looking at you. It’s a post race scene late 50’s, he’s drinking from a bottle after getting out of the car. I’ve seen a similar photo........it’s an original drawing for the grand sum of £35 !

The old artists story was that in the black and white photo of moss it was assumed he was drinking ‘coke’, but ......“.....of course when I asked Stirling what he was really drinking, he confirmed it was orange juice”. Hence the contents of the bottle is coloured orange in the drawing. Who cares whether it’s true, it sounded good. :D

He always seemed like a cheeky chappie with a glint in his eye whenever I saw him on TV, still exceptionally quick behind the wheel as others have said, true legend 8-)

re the actor, one clue then I'll reveal later on but if like me you enjoyed the TV show he starred in 3 or so years ago playing a grumpy old man who refused to grow old gracefully you'll get it, remember he's now in his 70's.
That show co starred Anita Dobson and Bill Patterson, no cheating..it's just for fun :D

I've been tackling a job these last few days that I've been meaning to do for some time. The carport has been in need of a refurbishment for a few years in all honesty, the roof sheets have long since succumbed to UV rays and faded to white, not so much light coming through. Worse though was one wooden supporting pole being so rotten at the base it decided to be a fully floating version, so something needed doing!

On closer inspection 2 of the 5 poles had broken off, good job it all hadn't flown away.
So 5 new 3.6M round wooden poles ordered, enough 3M roof sheets to cover the near 10M length and 300 new fixings.

Digging the rotten poles out was a PITA, they are sunk in the ground for 3feet, the hottest day last week was fun to tackle that job!

New poles in at last, the Mrs gave the wood frame a good clean and treated with preservative. Thankfully the beams were all OK.

Roof sheets didn't arrive until Friday, which of course was very windy! No hardship as it gave time for the timbers to dry off some more, nice that it kept dry for a change.

With the wind dropped today I set to and fitted the roof sheets.
Took me almost 10 hours to do, drilling the holes and screwing down, up and down ladders but again the weather was perfect for it with hardly a breath of wind and dry.

Quite chuffed with the efforts of the Mrs and me, came to about £400 in all but looks much better and is now safe, shouldn't be flying away now!

One thing that did need sorting when replacing the poles. There was some steel bands fitted over the beams as a secondary security in case of beams detaching, these broke when the uprights were changed.
What to replace them with?
I needed something to hand, strong but flexible enough to be formed. Resistant to the elements...
Can you guess what I used?
Look closely, old cambelts are never thrown away... :D

Was gonna take the 145 QV for a spin the other weekend, decided to go fetch the integrale from Jims' place.

Took it round to my mate John tonight as he'd yet to be in it, we took it for a blast around the lanes, seemed to be enjoyed.

Now have a choice to make every time I want a ride out, sometimes choices are win win 8-)

Had a very enjoyable day at Cadwell Park today with Tim, Paul and Rob, if a little draughty!
Great racing, great company and a fitting photo opportunity as the sun went down over the back of Park Straight 8-)
