You've got to question this quote though:

"We need to go back to what Alfa was known for," said Marchionne.
"Alfa never had front-wheel drive until Fiat turned up.

Erm, none of the boxer engine Alfas spring to mind Mr Marchionne :?:

So then, we should see the next generation of Alfas towards the end of 2015 then.
That's a long time on just two mainstream models and a halo model

I'll beat JB to it,

as far as boxer engined models, in particular the 33, even Alfa forgot/deny they made that one!

its a ridiculous scenario, considering the pedigree of the boxer engined cars, but they are on occasion, largely forgotten about or shirked!

True.
When we went to Spaitalia in 2010 for the 100th anniversary of AR they had a mahoosive time line board showing all the models......ah, except the 33.

i would like to think that a return to rear wheel drive would make cars easier to work on, but then with the can-bus electrics these days its not going to make any difference.

it won't be long before bonnets are sealed, and you will need a laptop and manufacturers engineer code to even open it!

I am sure you are right. It only goes to reinforce my conviction that old cars is best. I will never EVER buy a new car.
