Alfasud 1.5 Ti QV tidy up
Alfasud 1.5 Ti QV tidy up
Not really a resto...yet. More of a tidy up and register, then chew over where to next.
The car is stock, bar the steering wheel. It needs some attention in the drivers front light as it looks to have been repaired poorly, with some missalignment of light frame. The car is not perfect, but it is pretty sound and a good place to start.
My list goes a little like this:
Done:
New clutch master cylinder.
New cam belt
fresh oil, oil filter, fuel filter
Flushed old fuel.
replaced some dodgy fuel line
Replaced faulty dizzy
tuned
To be done:
NOS tail lights coming
refurb bumpers
Find better wheel arch's
Straighten front driver light panel
replace metal under battery tray (rusted through, have replacement panel).
Hunt down excellent carpet
Get black Alfa mats with red script (hide exsiting carpet and tidy up a little)
Install uncracked dash (in transit)
Tidy up rats nest wiring under dash from air con and imobiliser and air horn installs all done poorly.
Replace clutch
Redo door trim backing / hunt for speakerless door trim (good luck?!)
passenger door latch faulty - fix
Hunt for rust, repair, fish oil.
Replace worn suspension components as necessary.
Fit sport exhaust, cams and perhaps some ported heads.
Question: Anyone know if the 1.7 Alfasud Sprint twin carbies are larger carbies than the ti and worth considering with exhaust, cams and head work?
I am not sure what I am doing with the car as yet. I have an Alfa 33 16v and an Alfasud sprint 1.7 8v (1987) engine. I also kept everything from the 33 including struts, computer, braces, fuel tanks, loom etc to make a conversion less painfull. I am not jumping to install them just yet, but if I enjoy the car as much as I think I might, I may head that way for a little more poke. At this stage I might just be happy enough with exhaust, cam and a little headwork. We shall see.
Enjoy the pics.

Re: Alfasud 1.5 Ti QV tidy up
Excellent little tidy up that Mike, very jealous we don't find cars like that over in damp old blighty!
Why not do a forced induction build on the 16v engine for us in the modification thread, and then finally drop it into the sud once its finished and plumb it in?
Just a thought, but if you fancy some more poke, the 126v is a healthy dollop more anyway, but why not play to your strengths eh?

Re: Alfasud 1.5 Ti QV tidy up
Is that a standard red for the Sud? Looks fantastic, deeper than normal?
Re: Alfasud 1.5 Ti QV tidy up
Thanks all.
Yes the colour is factory alfa I think. I messed with the image but when I loaded it up and it was further compressed the colours got a little screwy.
Fan now overhauled, sandblasted and ready for reinstall. Could not stand that rusty thing staring at me every time I popped the bonnet!
How go the wheels Shrew? ...Sud or fiat....hmmm.
Just saw an Italian Classic car display tonight in Florence Italy! Could not believe my luck, just stumbled across it. You name it, it was there....well except for a Sud! My fav was a boat tail spider, two actually, I love these. Will have to try and find a link as I was without a camera for the first time on my trip!

Hi mate,
Back home safely now yeah?
Wheels are stripped back to bare metal, and in the engineering process now, which should be completed any time.
Ill start a thread on them shortly if you like?
Cheers

Re: Alfasud 1.5 Ti QV tidy up
Now I'm back from my overseas adventures I have found some time to tackle the next things that we're bugging me. The original fan shroud was rusty and bent so I yanked it out, sandblasted it, straightened it and repainted it.
The dash was cracked to buggery (I guess West Australian 40 deg days are not kind to alfa plastics!). Also there was an 'interesting rats nest of wires sitting on the shelf under the drivers side shelf. The wires turned out to be from a Bodgey stereo install, a immobiliser install and air con install...all three deserved a slapping.
So the dash came out along with center console, which revealed about 30 cigarette butts and a set of keys that had slipped down behind ash tray, as for keys, not quite sure how they got there, or what they unlock!
Happily the area is rust free. So nice second hand dash will go on today with any luck, and I will no longer have to at cracks everywhere.
Also got a nos gear stick booty, to replace the missing one.
It's coming together slowly.
If any of you guys have a spare s3 drivers mirror that would be great, my plastic has become very brittle and snapped. Also still after mint rear flares.
Photos soon.

Coming along nicely.
Get those pics up, keen to see how it looks with the new dash.
Your going to have this registered before I get the sprint registered.
I need to pull my finger out.
I do have another little project that requires my attention as well
