Shame we are all in need of fitment at different times, otherwise it would have been easier for him to come to sunny notts and do them in one go......

Chin up mate... these things come to try us I guess....
On the subject of windscreens I attempted to remove mine yesterday, it was cracked so no good to be re-used but needed to come out. what a nightmare job, the last muppit that did a 'restoration' on my car in 1991 used a mixture of silicon and some sort of rubberised no-nails or something! After I removed the trim and cut around the front face I spent about 2 hours trying to cut around it and behind it with knives, no luck so I tried a cheese wire method using some stainless wire, still no chance,I tried some thinners to loosen it, still no sign of getting anywhere :x
So only one option left!! smash it out and spend another hour clearing all the glass up!! :)
I was hoping to get some measurements of the old screen but no chance of that!!

Then again WHEN I get it back she'll be sooooooooooooooooooooo different

Here we go again,
I work 50 hour weeks, car in "dry" storage - locked at weekends
Can't take time off in the week as work is manic - can't work on her on Sunday (only part if week I get off).
IS there anyone here that can suggest someone that can out her "back together"?????
Kev done a great job with the body work but has his work cut out with his own and Shrew just keeps driving around buying wheels

PS I suppose MITCAR isn't before the 7th August as I'm on the "family holiday" after that - If shes ready I'll let one of my brothers take her :o

Thanks
H

Hi Shrew, Simple things like replacing all the interior and checking all the suspension bolts are tight, replacing the gearbox and engine mounts.
Then its only the wiring and engine but I've got someone sorted for these.

Really if I had a week off all would be done, but its like today - I went in at 8.30 and finished at 3.15.
Would mind but I'm on salary so don't even get paid

Hopefully work will quiten down by he begining of March ???

When Is MITCAR anyway ??

Hi all, nice to see a few old and a few new faces at SAD.
We'll I've spent almost 7 hours on the sud today :D
Glass all in, door locks all refitted so she is now water tight (except the sun roof)

Was hoping my brother would give me a hand on Sunday fitting the new front engine mounting and sort out the rear one but "he's too busy gardening" sad git :o so it looks like it'll be just me.
I went to refit the carbon'd rear spoiler but there is so much of it bubbled and shrunk that I have made the decision to get everything redone in the "new" dipping system (god knows how much that will cost but in for a penny and that ;) .

Some help now - the rear badges on the top of the rear wing
Can you get new rubber backings for these ? if not is there anything that can be modified to suit?

Asked an electrical engineer if it was possible to LED the rear lights and he's come up with a great idea of inserting some strips into the reflector. How easy is it to separate the lense from the back?

BAD NEWS
The remaining paint from the first go has decided to spring a leek into the box that it was in so now I have a half green steering casing and worst still half green back badges (even the TIX one  )
Maybe I'll just carbon the bloody lot

Will take some more pics over the weekend - does look quite cool with the tinted windows now.

Hi spent some of the weekend doing a few things
082.JPG
Apparently tinted front windows were legal in 1982 so its a good job I kept the original glass :D
After that I spent 8 hours changing the lowered springs back to factory as without the ICE the rear arches rubbed only to find the factory ones raised it like a monster truck :o so i done the "don't do it" mod of cutting a coil off :o

Car now looks better and I will still have clearance when fully loaded (sorry I forgot to take a pic)

Lastly I decided to have a look at the engine - the placement of the carbs is fairly easy as I remembered that the petrol intakes face the back, the big problem I've got is where do these parts go !!
083.JPG
I thought the haynes manual would of showed it but no it doesn't.
I'm sure the lefthand top part fits to the top but its the righthand side that baffells me as I can't seem to get clearance for bar to move.

Can anyone post a pic of what should go were :)

Thanks
H

Hi Kermie - the choke levers on the 36 IDF are not handed, so one points forwards and the other points backwards when fitted on the manifolds, and they have to be pulled in opposite directions to work. The choke cable does this by using a loop of outer cable between the two carbs clamped to the balance bar assembly. The inner cable then passes through the eyelet in the choke lever of the first carb (I can't remember if it is right or left) and is clamped in place, then continues through the outer around to the second carb, where it is also clamped into the choke lever eyelet. Pulling the choke out therefore operates both chokes simultaneously.

I didn't explain that very well, but it is the reason why I have never connected my chokes either. If the carbs are tuned correctly, the old adage of pumping the throttle a couple of times before starting does hold true, although you can't expect the engine to idle reliably until its warmed up a bit!

Hi All, Full metal jacket is back under my carport :o
The unit she was in before was great but I couldn't really just tinker for a few hours now and then as it took me a good 30 mins to get her out of the corner she was in and the same again to put her back.
Good news I have had the Bumper and Sunroof back from the carbon dippers and they look soooooooo much better than the crapy vynil that I had done before.

Only problem do far is I cannot find the rubber seal for the NSR indicator / brake light.
Has anyone got one (the original rubber crumbled when I cleaned it and the one I had from John (which I believe was his last) is the one that's gone astray.

I will pay for a whole light if anyone has a good one.

Thanks
H

Hi Col
There 17 x 7.5 with 195 /45/17 tyres et of 25
I do believe they will fit if you use std springs and 175 tyres (to get the tread inside the arch - I went instead the flared arch as I need to replace them anyway.
Hope this helps
