Slow gearchange

The change on my Sud is slow.
I think it is taking time for the synchro to work.
I have seen it suggested that 75/90 rather than 80/90 will make a difference.

Is that the best idea or what about Mollyslip or other additives?

Any ideas?

I recommend Mobilube 1 SHC which is 75/90 & fully synthetic & has been around for years. I used it in my Alfetta GTV6 transaxle which had a very slow, baulky, second gear synchro. Using SHC transformed it, be warned SHC smells evil and it isn't good for your skin - wear Nitrile gloves. Around £15 a litre from Opie oils. I believe Millers CRX 75/90NT is very good too, but at £17 a litre from Opie it's a bit expensive.

I would avoid additives, you don't really know what you're putting in your gearbox. Quote from an article by LJK Setright in Car magazine several years ago "Manufacturers of Molybdenum Disulphide additives don't tell you it oxidises into a vicious abrasive".

You say its agressive on the skin, is it ok with older oil seals?

If Setright says don't use molybdenem, then don't. I would always accept his advice.

I use the millers, expensive but excellent. Mines a 1200ti std box but in my racer so it’s running hard and hot when in use. Doubt you’d need to change it for a good few years so worth it.

Forgot to add, before using millers I used Castrol gear oil, syntrax I think it was called which was good stuff, but the millers is even better so it’s worth it. I the gear change was a marked step up again over castrol going to millers.
