Front bushes (again)

Post by chriswilliams »

My steering is not quite right!
I have checked everything I can think of and all that is left is a new set of bushes.
I have decided to go with the originals rather than powerflex.
I can find originals for the rear link (original number 531050)

My problem is the fronts. The originals are 102693 but I am being offered 1105099 which is the bush for the 33 not the Sud.

So my question is, have others used the 33 type bush in the Sud, and are there any problems?

Regards,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I recently purchased a complete set of bushes for my inboard brakes 82 Sprint. They came in Akron packaging with Akron P/N 6967 although I believe an earlier number is 287. Alfa Restoration state 60501394 is the same as 115099. Alfa-onlineshop.de state they are the same as
these 131554, 115099, 102693, 60501394, 60506693, 60709809, 96585065. As far as I can determine, Akron are the only remaining manufacturer of the bushes & I would imagine any AR NOS of a particular part number are long gone.

You say you're having steering troubles......not to be rude, but have you or anyone else taken the struts apart? I've had a right game with mine, somebody had mixed up left and right components. In theory the parts are keyed so they can't be mixed up, but........

Thanks for the heads up on the bushes.

I managed to mix some 33 bits with my Sud bits that caused trouble (the rubbers at the top of the spring which set the rotation angle), but I THINK I have them correct now.
The strut bearings are new and everything else is tight.
The steering is OK (a little heavy) but I think not as precise as I remember. Also, it lacks self centering, especially when turning out of a junction. I am hoping that soft bushes could be the cause?

Chris.

Hi Chris,

By pure luck I have acquired a pair of front struts with the original upside down shox. They don't appear to have been ever taken apart & when the offside one was trial fitted to my Sprint part body shell (see Sprint Resurrection & you'll see what I mean!) everything lined up correctly. I can send some pics over the weekend if you like, identifying where the alignment dimples are in the top fitting parts, so you can check your's are correct.
