33 Fuel Pump Relay fuse

Post by alfettagtam »

Hi All

What should the amperage be for the fuse in the fuel pump relay?

Mine has a 15 amp fuse that keeps popping. It's just back from the autoelectrician who replaced the relay and tested the rest of the circuit. I'm suspicious that it's the fuse that's not right.

Is there a reference somewhere of what fuse should be used for each circuit?

TIA!
Kerry

Hi Kerry.
I’ve had a look and all
I can find is the following page from the handbook. However I’m sure I’ve seen the relay and it has a fuse built into it.

This doesn’t appear in the handbook but I’m sure from memory I’ve seen the relay and it has a green fuse which is a 30A.
Hope this helps

I think I’d be inclined to put a ohm meter across the circuit to measure the current draw and fuse it accordingly

Thanks Lou - I'll do the ohm meter check.

The relay (with fuse) is under the bonnet next to the battery not in the fuse box. I too can't find anything on it's specs.

Do you know what the fuel pump is rated at?

Even de-rating a 15amp fuse by 50% (typical 25% at 25c) it should have more than enough headroom for a fuel pump I would have thought...maybe the pump is partially seized or you have too much resistance in the supply wire...

It's a 1992 Permanent 4 so I assume it is the same as any other 33. Can't find the specs of the fuel pump in any of the manuals either!

First thing tested when it first failed was the pump itself so I dont think it has a problem - i'll keep that in mind though, if the the pump seizes occassionally that would blow the fuse I suppose.
