Harsh ride front shocks/ springs

Post by Splant »

Loving my 83 sprint it's great having thumbs up / flashing and stares all the time, but my front ends skipping over potholes, my springs are 38cm long it seems like it might be topping out when accelerating up banks? Or is that the correct length for them? Tried the bounce test and it seems ok ,but I've never trusted that method, I read somewhere about strut wearing and watching top of the wheel moving in and out and I think that might be happening

as I get a peculiar feeling steering at low speeds. Can't find where I read it now?

I think the strut bearings on the early inboard braked cars are greaseable.

Loo will know for sure.

The early set up for strut bearing consisted of a rather hefty collar that the bearing sat on and could be stripped to be greased up. it also housed the seal But this was very small in cross section and was crap ! The strut bearings seizing up was the main cause Of stiff steering And a reluctance to self centre. The modified bearing is enclosed in a yellow plastic housing and they are a much better item. They’re not designed to be split open but You can carefully tweak them open and I have done it in the Past .

Getting used to avoiding potholes and grids, plus gone down to 26psi (175-65-14) read on some specifications 24psi, do any of you run them this low?
