1983 in-board discs
1983 in-board discs
Looking on eBay the only front discs that look like the ones I need says this item doesn't fit your vehicle when I put my model in! I've asked and sent my reg no, but for some reason my reg doesn't work ( it's like that on insurance forms also, it's the disc where the 6 driveshaft bolts hold it on , is there many different types like that? One's on eBay are ferodo item no 333513845148? Cheers
Re: 1983 in-board discs
as far as I know there are only 2 different sud inboard disc designs.
the very early cars had 4 bolt lug mounts
after some time they all ended up using the 6 driveshaft bolts to trap the disc between the driveshaft and the gearbox flange. no difference I've ever known in the design of the disc
sud never had the outbaords , or are we talking sprint? but you did say inboard so ignore that!

Re: 1983 in-board discs
There are actually 3 different ones. The first ones with 4 connection lugs with the initial shape. These connection lugs proved to be prone to breaking off so the 2nd design which came rather quickly after the initial design was again with 4 connection lugs with a modified shape which were way more resilient / durable. Then there was the third and last design with the center design with a shape of a circle and 6 bolt attachment. If your car is a 1983 one then most probably it's the third design, have a peak at your car and you know within 5 minutes. Both the 4 connection lug type and the 6 bolt attachment type ones can be found easily on E-Bay. The 4-lug versions that are sold now are all of the improved version.
The Ferodo 333513845148 ones are the 6-bolt type (3rd design), have a quick look at your car and you know whether they're appropriate or not.

Definitely 6 bolt ! One snapped off, and one I had to grind off as the hex rounded off! Cheers

Hi Splant, as expected based on the build year of 1983 the six bolt version. Now you know for sure and can order the corresponding Ferodo discs. The original number you had figured out is the 6-bolt version.

Don't forget to apply some Loctite when fastening the inner hexagon head bolts!

I would second this as a ti I had and subsequently sold on once dropped the 6 bolts out at low speed!Alfa_Japan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 1:29 pmDon't forget to apply some Loctite when fastening the inner hexagon head bolts!

Re: 1983 in-board discs
Ok will do , they're not very good design been an Allen bolt for getting tight,a normal hex bolt would be better.
Re: 1983 in-board discs
The Rh side is normally ok as the rotation wants to tighten the bolts.
The LH side is the opposite.....they should have fitted LH thread.
I use longer bolts on the LH side with Nylocs behind
And some loktite for good measure

Re: 1983 in-board discs
3 weeks later not arrived and no reply ,so dispute started , progress stopped again! I understand why the rears are rare being so substantial, but there's not much special about the fronts. To big a groove in the old one's as they'd ran it with no pad material on .

Re: 1983 in-board discs
Had this twice as well when trying to source rear brake discs. Many shops list these items because it will attract customers, but in reality they have no stock. I'm not saying this is the case for you, but happened twice to me. Hope this works out fine you and turns out to be "only" Corona related delay.
