Problem is that the golf gti was out late 70’s, 78 ish I think in Europe, and it’s the term ‘hatch’

I posted the same on PistonHeads and all the nerds moaned that that the early sud wasn’t a hatch.

Then all the nerds posted simcas and all sorts of crap :D

Anyhow, good vid and I agree that the sud was the first hot hatch even when it had a boot.

If we get totally anal, maybe it was the sprint.......is that a hot hatch or a hot coupe :D

What about the Austin A40??? :lol:

Totally agree about the Sud. The Golf got there in the end, but the Sud was designed to go, stop and handle right from the start - I mean, who designs a 5-speed box and then releases it as a 4-speed???

Well they did race the Austin A40, so that has to be the first hot hatch ?

It has a hinged rear window, not a combined hinged hatch........ :D

Phase 2 Rochdale Olympic had a proper rear hatch in 1963.

It was hot if you touched the exhaust manifold

Some say Aston Martin DB 2/4 was the first "production" hatch. 1953. :geek:
