Resilvering headlights

Post by Splant »

I know it's mentioned in the helpful hints but I can't find it when searching, how to separate the glass and how to stick foil or chrome tape without it creasing? Cheers

I can not speak from experience, but it is said that soaking the light unit in petrol will enable removal of the lens, but that is usually to swap with a European LHD dip unit lens.
Not sure about sticking tape inside to repair the reflector though.

I haven’t tried to separate the lenses from the backing yet myself but I’m sure it is possible with lots of patience . Some solvent and a sharp knife (in a well ventilated room obviously) . I have seen a modern spray system that gives a superb chrome chrome effect. So it may be worth speaking to a body shop about it when you get the lenses off .

I had mine done on my last Alfasud by Dual Metallising Limited in Birmingham a good few years ago. They did a great job. I forget how much they cost but, with genuine the units getting hard to find, it meant my Sud got through its next three MOT Tests no problem.
