For the roll cage installation the MSA blue book states that 3mm thic reinforcing plates need welding where the feet mount.

The drivers side cage mount behind the seat looked rough, a dig with the grinder soon found some holes

The repairs towards the rear were much the same, chop the rotten floor sections then the inner sill bits. Repair the sills then make floor pieces. But fiddly around the seat mount but all solid again.

The floor section was made from slightly thicker steel again for a bit of added strength, it'll be getting a reinforcer section for the cage foot mount.

The passenger side was pretty much a repeat of the passenger side, just not quite as bad. Still needed the full length of the lower sill repairing but the front footwell was good enough to save.
The round hole got a plate cut out and seam welded in.

The rear bits needed to be shaped to follow the contours of the floor, manageable with the floor material but the 3mm stuff is tough to shape.
I came up with the plan to warm it up to ease things, my little gas fire was given the task. Not sure how much it helped but it made making the shapes possible. Had to be quick handling it though even with welding gauntlets!

Where the cage meets the rear wheel arches looked a mess, plus the bolt holes don't match the cage that's to go in.
IMG_20191120_185514.jpg

Although the arch itself wasn't too bad once the rusty reinforcing plate was cut off there was some rust to remove so worth chopping out even if the holes had been usable.

IMG_20191120_185532.jpg
Arch got a new piece let in. Next visit I'll repair it where it meets the inner quarter panel then make a piece for the reinforcing plates.

Probably white and red Keith. I can’t find a pic of one, this link is the white and orange that didn’t work above. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=alfas ... EP1jKBuJiM

Porsche 911 in the same scheme https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=white ... wbRXNemA1M

Hoping that it'll progress a bit quicker soon , not that its in any rush, just of late there's been a lot of distractions.
Sarah turned 17 last month so a search for a car for her took time.
Moved a job lot of Beta coupe parts up to the unit , had to make some shelving to store them, not that I've anything to use them on yet!
As much as I say that I'm in no rush I still want to paint it in the spring, with Christmas coming up fast time will fly and it'll be me wondering where the time has gone!

That will look nice, stripe coloured wheels as well like the 911?

Passenger side got a little extra repair patch then the reinforcing plate welded in this afternoon.
IMG_20191127_183514.jpg
Drivers side thankfully was in much better condition under the old plate, arch didn't need repairing.
Reinforcer plate all that was needed.
IMG_20191127_183529.jpg
Made up some plates for the underside, next time I'll place the cage in and get all the holes drilled. Be pleased to move onto a different part to weld!

Not a lot done these last 2 weeks, well not a think at all really, been under the weather with flu.

Decided I'd better get back to it this afternoon, year is nearly over already..

There was a suspect area in the passenger footwell, looked like trouble.

The inner skin got cut away to reveal the main source of the corrosion, this bit is actually the reinforcing section where the suspension arm mounts so needs to be free of rust..
