Windscreen dimensions

Post by sudboy1490 »

Over the past year Iv been awaiting Pilkingtons to supply the correct windscreen for my s2 ti sud. The first screen they supplied was too small so I sent them my original cracked screen to measure. After waiting another month I was told the screen had been lost. So after much tooing and froing and another 3 + month waiting they supplied another screen saying the previous screen had the incorrect curve on it making it narrow at the edges. At the time I thought this was BS but went with it. Anyway Iv just received the 2nd replacement screen which has turned out to be exactly the same size as the first i.e. about 5or10mm too small all round. Their plan now is to send me two screens, one 5mm bigger all round and the other 10mm.

So you can see my dilemma, are any of these screen going to actually going to fit correctly.

So to try to get the correct size this time has anyone got a screen out of a car that they could measure for me? Across the centre and top to bottom.

Be fantastic if anyone could help me out, I don’t hold out much hope for pilkingtons and hope to god I don’t have to deal with the ever again.

There customer service is terrible as Iv had to chase this screen from start to finish.

That sounds like very poor service indeed, things have clearly gone downhill since I had dealings with Pilkington. I guess in principle there should be two sizes of screen, one for the early bonded screen cars (presumably the larger size) and one for the later rubber seal. I guess your problem is that the S2s could have been fitted with either type, depending on which side of the demarcation they fall :(

I hope that you can get the correct size screen for your car.

Colin. Once your sorted if you end up with a few screens around you. I need a S3 screen. Rather than return them to Pilks. I’d be happy to buy it off you.

Yes please strut that would be great :D

Could you measure it top to bottom in the centre, and across the middle centre and also at its widest point towards the bottom edge. If you do this from the inside of the screen it’ll make it easier I guess.

Thanks again for the offer ;)

Are the measurements taken with the tape pulled tight so it’s as the crow flies so to speak?

I measured with the screen concave so I didn't have to deal with the curvature of the glass. Tape was tight. Are you getting different measurements?

I’ll measure mine when I get home tonight, least then I’ll have the exact difference in mm to give to pilkingtons instead of guessing 5/10mm.

Is your screen a genuine Alfa one?

This nugget seem to keep coming round time and time again. Given the hassle various members have had with screens. can anyone confirm the Pilkingtons number for a S3 sud front screen Looking at the website I’m thinking it’s Pilkingtons #2015.
Anyone got an Old invoice with the actual number supplied for a S3 .
As most of you know My cars an 84

Hi Lou

That reference number is correct according to Pilkingtons, but beware the screen they sent for my series 3 was too small.
I’m still in the process of them sorting out, they have the size of my original screen so hoping the correct screen will eventually be supplied. (Given the current coronavirus issues I guess it will be months)
Luckily I got a secondhand one so at least I can still use the car.
