1984 Alfasud Gold Cloverleaf Shock absorbers/dampers

Post by Mufasa »

Quick questions lads:
1) would Koni alfa 33 inserts work for the front?
2) would Alfa 33/Alfasud sprint shocks work for the rears?
TIA

Fronts, only if they are the 33 series one inserts, and a series 3 sud housing. The one with a rounded end not the flat bottom housing.

Rear shocks, no. Axle swap needed to use 33 shocks.

Good man - really appreciate it!

Think these are series 3 33?

Holy thread resurrection Batman!
So 3 and a half years ago I bought these (and the rears):
https://shop.alfisti.net/Tuning-Styling ... :9797.html
About a year ago I bought 4 lowering springs from Sudshop.
(Some of you will be familiar with the good intentions but waylaid journey....)
A couple of weeks back I fitted them to my Sud BUT the front shocks/dampers are not retaining when jacking car up, so it's sliding up the strut. As it's the opposite to the original upside down design I think I've left out the brass cup but would I fit it below the spring pan? I do have other front struts that have been adapted to use Koni shocks so I might disassemble them to use that bit. I've new gaiters on the way from Alfisti.net so they'll (the fronts) be coming back off the car soon.
Sorry if that's a bit waffly and pic for attention, nice ride height now

Your car is sitting really nice now. How does it feel on the road.
I tried some on mine once and it was too low for me and was too hard on the road. I sold them to a guy who fitted them to his 33. Often wondered about the Sudshop ones.

It feels nice and tight (the old lowering springs had become very crashy and sat quite a bit lower).
My only issue is the shock sliding up. I do think I have the solution. I'll keep you posted.
I'm hoping to get it sorted soon and getting it through our MOT equivalent and see the MM values on each corner.

Thanks for the update.
This photo shows how low mine sat. It shook your fillings out. The car did six miles like that. (MOT station and back) then i fitted the standard ones back on.

Took the spring pans of the struts that I had on the car, they have a narrower centre and should stop the insert sliding up. Got to fit the new gaiters I bought too. Hope to refit tonight or tomorrow night and then book NCT (MOT equivalent)
