Slight setback, both the front calipers are not good. They aren't seized but don't move freely (a huge bar is the only thing that will push the little piston back) so it's time for new calipers. How is yours coming on?

Not good, have you sourced some already? Carb clean and MOT next week. So should be up and running next weekend

Trying to remember now, but don't you wind back and set/reset the front calipers with an Allan key, or are you saying you needed a bar to assist the Allan key?

You do and I thought the same didn't want to say they are doing it wrong

I can understand why you would think that...what I was doing was levering the two pads apart in the caliper whilst turning the Alan key as the piston was seized. Otherwise the Alan key/screw would become stripped and not pull the piston back.

I've had the calipers reconditioned and should be back tomorrow...

Aha! Understand what you meant, if the fronts were seized, what about the rears are they seized too?

Nice to meet you today at National Alfa Day - very nice sprint you have there; be good to have the black Sud along side it in due course - good luck with the callipers!

Hi Ian, it was good to meet you and I really enjoyed the day. Hoping the calipers arrive tomorrow, I've even got a few days off to put them back on!

Ah yes, refurbished calipers finally arrived and now fitted...they look nice and shiny too! Got the car through the MOT on Friday although the tester wanted to fail it on the seat not locking properly (where you push the lever down to let the upright tilt forward). Had to explain that to lock it you lift the lever. Anyway, job done!

Not racked up many miles yet, I'm off tomorrow so it's being treated to a wash and polish. Can't really drive it yet as it's not taxed. Still got loads of little jobs here and there to do

Had a go at machine polishing the Sud today...pretty pleased with the glossy black paintwork that returned as well as some scratches that disappeared...took ages and I've still got the doors and rear quarters to do...worth it though

Alfa blacks are good, interesting to see what goes in when they are mixed up - lots of deep blue which seems to give it that depth - hope my old Sud has found a dedicated owner like yourself - good work!

Talking of black Alfa paint, I called into Halfords for some and decided to have some made up...AR901 sprung to mind and I wondered if it was a good or bad thing that I knew it by heart. Got back to the car and it's actually ar905 so not quite the anorak I thought I'd become!

JB, just realised that I didn't reply...I used Maguiars 105 and then 205 compound but with a soft pad... really pleased with the shine..

Considering some bodywork and the painter asked me to get 'Dave the Dentman' to get rid of some rear qtr dents. For £70 he removed 7 dents and the panel is now perfect...amazing!

Well I removed the rear seat and panel and left him to it. There were marks on the wax oil and sucker marks on the paintwork. He wasn't happy that his tools were covered in wax oil!

Haha, that's true! The two dents in the bonnet would be expensive to sort, £50 but there are also some nasty scratches so I may just having it resprayed..decisions decisions!

Morning

If you can get to the dents , do it yourself , get a piece of wood and GENTLY slide the wood over the dent, this way it gradually pushes the metal back. Plus using wood , it's softer than alfa metal . Just
Just take your time ;)
