Electric fan.
Electric fan.
Hi guys. Pretty warm down south today, on the way to a show the fan came in fine and cut off as usual - then it didn't come in again. When I tried to turn it by hand it was nearly solid, I freed it up and spun it up with a link wire. Question is can it be lubricated somehow or is it FUBAR?
Re: Electric fan.
Could be lubricated with spray grease with an extension tube?
Saves removing it and stripping it down.

Re: Electric fan.
I wondered if drilling a small hole in a fan blade might make life easier?
Re: Electric fan.
There is a small bearing at either end of the casing mate, a squirt of WD40 will help free it up, not sure how easy it will be to get to the bearing at the fan blade end without removing the motor and taking the blades off but should be able to dribble a bit in.

Re: Electric fan.
Was Kev - same question. WD40 isn't the best lube tho' is it? Would spray grease or silicone be any better?
Re: Electric fan.
I'm not a huge fan of the white grease to be honest, seems to just congeal and go solid. Silicon spray grease though is a good idea.
I'm more a fan of getting it moving and regularly spinning it, like every time you go under the bonnet to check the oil & water just give it a spin by hand.
WD40 isn't a long term lubricant at all, as you intimate, just a means of getting it moving to start with.

Re: Electric fan.
Totally agree, and its also not very kind on many plastics, vinyls and pvc. Nothing worse long term for cables with such outer liners for example.KevJTD wrote: WD40 isn't a long term lubricant at all
I like Silkopen for that sort of application, brilliant stuff!

Re: Electric fan.
Finish Line dry Teflon spray lube is good stuff
Re: Electric fan.
Drilling a hole in the front of the fan meant I was able to squirt the silicone directly onto the bearing. Just refitted it and it spins like a goodun and almost silent. W5
Re: Electric fan.
Hope you drilled 4 holes to balance it out ! That could all go terribly wrong, Ha.
Re: Electric fan.
4 one eighth holes.
Re: Electric fan.

Re: Electric fan.
As an afterthought does anyone know if the fan mounting rubbers are available or what did you use instead.
