Alfa 33 s2 16v Resurrection
Hi chaps
Well I think after about 7 years off the road, it's time to restore and upgrade my 33. For the ones who don't know my car . I've owned it since 99. Put a 16v in it around 2002. Fibreglass boot and bonnet. Konis ànd lowered it . Uprated chip, recaro front seats DTM back box . I stripped the rear seats out and that was about it . Always had plans but life gets in the way . So fast forward to last Saturday.i towed it home with my dad and now the fun begins.
First job was to cut flush and then drill out two snapped wheel bolts .Then I lightly filed them ,till I could see the threads .Then tapped them. Next I had a little play with one of Carlos fandango alloys I got off a certain person we all know
This is with a 6mm spacer. But I've ordered a pair of hub centric spacers which are 16mm . Now I guess your all looking and saying it's to wide and needs a new wider arch to cover it.well Watch this space
Next up is welding . Jacking points on driver's side . Which I'll start tomorrow.

Re: Alfa 33 s2 16v Resurrection
where's the fun in that
Well i didn't do any welding today . But got rid of the sound deadening stuff on the drivers floor . But as you can see .It's going to need more welding than I thought on the driver's side needs a sill .At least half . But mite as well put a complete one on . Where's the best place ? Theres a couple of car parts firms round my way .Mite do a patern part for it?
Now I need a drink

Just went out to the garage and had a measure up. I think the kit is a goer . The hub centric spacers are on there way then I'll deside which kit I'll put on

Evening chaps
Well I finally started welding today . Most of the cabin is done now bar about foot of plating. Had a nice little fire on the passenger side where the fuel and brake lines are . To the point I was thinking.time for the fire extinguisher I'm plating along the floor to the inner sill. This will be finished tomorrow afternoon .
Then I can start on the outside.
Spacers arrived plus another toy to help with the build Roll on tomorrow

Thats one way of getting it off.
I used to work with a guy who did that prior to starting a crash repair job. Set it alight then wire brush it off quickly. Soon learnt to hold my breath when fire watching. H&S
would not like that now !!
JB, have you ever seen this guys project ? All steel.
Re: Alfa 33 s2 16v Resurrection
Evening Keith
Interesting why to get underseal off
Yes it's based on Subaru platform. Was on the forum of Nazi moderators
Hmmmmm nice arches
Well the cabin is all welded up now. Just need a bit of grinding to smooth things. Tomorrow I'll start around front driver side jacking point .Then go from there. Should have the sills Saturday morning. Then I can finish the driver's side
Also looking at getting threaded bar to do a stud conversion to take my Carlos Fandango wheels .
Shrew what's the best option for this .As this is all your fault

Re: Alfa 33 s2 16v Resurrection
Probably easier to buy a stud conversion kit than make your own. The kits come with a collar between the threads that go In the hub and the wheel nut threads .
I've got them from demon tweaks and jjc race and rally before, but some eBay kits look decent enough.

Sorry JB,
Not!
Tim, presumably you mean this sort of thing yes?
I use the same myself Tim, along with adjuster nuts that safely allow me to use 4x100, although I've redrilled and tapped my hubs with the 100mm pcd now anyway so that i can go both ways on the pcd, 98mm to 102mm so that i can include old skool 4" stuff too

Re: Alfa 33 s2 16v Resurrection
Just buy them long, 100mm, and once you're done messing with wheels and spacers then trim to suit your final set up.

Try a company called Rally Design. Think its the peugeot studs i fit on the rally car. They have stood up to the pounding in motorsport so should be good enough for the road?

Afternoon chaps
Little update. Welded up front inner arch yesterday. So now I can work my way back to the rear .Waiting on the lower sills I'm getting made up .Soould have been today . I'll pop down Monday.
Got the bathroom scales out to see what weight differences are with wheels and brakes.
The three calipers I have in the photos are 33 16v, fiat coupe turbo brembos and Vauxhall Calibra 16v First my 33 wheels ,then the 9j rial rims aka Carlos Fandangos . Ordered the studs from jjc . Cheers veesix75

Bit of progress this afternoon. Front inner arch and front jacking point rebuild. Still waiting on the lower sills . But I'm happy if I can do little bits to keep moving forward. Won't win any welding awards. But it's strong

Re: Alfa 33 s2 16v Resurrection
strong welds are always the aim mate, anything else can be covered in seam sealer looks fine to me
at least you'll be able to jack it out without looking for the dimple in the carpet!

True . Need to get some seam sealer . happy with the jacking point. Refitted the side skirt to see the if the length of the tube was to long . But it's spot on . 50mm .You can just see . Which will help when jacking.

Re: Alfa 33 s2 16v Resurrection
Evening chaps
Fun day working on the 33 today. No gas as the shops closed today. So thought a spot of weight reduction is in order. So started on the rear drivers side door. Off came the door card . then i noticed part of the sound deadning was missing and a bulge panel was straight. Warning filler alert . So a bit of hammer time As you can see .The whole section was filler . Now they have done a great job in the mid 90's im guessing .As I've owned from 99. BUT they had shortz the inside of the door . So why didn't just knock the damage out so about half an hour of chizerling . All the filler was removed . Which I weighed to see .And it came out at 663 grams now as they had the door card off .Just hammer it out . Like I did . Probably took the bloke a morning to fill it So back to the weight reduction. I've cut out most of the inner door .But I've kept the central locking mechanism. The front doors I'm going to keep the power windows too . But I'm going to cut as much as I can from the inner panel. All windows are now out . I've weighed parts to keep a track of most of the reduction. Then I can add when I put in the poly Windows. I'll be covering the hole with an aluminium sheet .More for looks than anything as this is going to be a bit of a show car to promote my business. But that will be more the bodywork and wheels
Hope you enjoyed this episode .
