Thanks for your encouragement I'm working round the firewall area and avoiding it as long as possible given the state of it , the car didn't look too bad at the beginning!

i keep saying it, but it's deserved. cracking work mate as always

Agreed, that's a big bit done, only trouble is the other side is the same I live in hope the other side may not be as bad as this side but there is more chance of seeing a Renault Megane with 2 headlights working than finding less corrosion on the other side

Hope you can find a wing rail now to finish the job off - will be nice if you can save your S1 boxing in panel at the back of wing rail though as these must be rare to see now

Ok chaps, time for an overdue update or 2......

After fitting the inner wing panel there were a few bits to finish off... These captive nuts are stainless and came off ebay, if anyone wants to know I can upload the item number..

The next job was the wing mounting rail, John at just suds came up with one for me, it was a new panel that had been fitted to a project that never got finished, thanks John

I took that rail along with the other rail I already had that was new but had rust in the seems through bad storage and 1/2 the scuttle panel down to the strippers.... After some metalwork both were given a coat of etch primer.....

Now to remove that rotten foam filled old rail.....

With a house move approaching I needed to get the shell mobile, those of you who have followed this rebuild from its beginning 4 1/2 years ago will remember I had already made up a frame for the rear of the car so I needed to do the same at the front and join them together. The hardest part was getting the uprights vertical to the top plates that fit to the strut top points I now have the front and rear sections bolted together so the shell is ready to move when needed

Hi Thanks for that as well. I will need some so I can be confident my petrol tank is to remain attached to the car when it finally rolls out of the shed.

Impressed at your efforts. I once restored a rare 50's motorcycle to that level, but could not do it with a car. Too much battling with ugly bits I think.
So much on a motorbike is seen and so a different standard. I would like to say better engineered but I do not think that is true as much of a Sud is very well thought out.

Wing mounting rail is now on, all welds neatly ground back and 1st passing of seam sealer added Another big job done....

Next up..... O/S Door.....
Getting a good door gap is impossible unless the hinge pins are in tip top order as we know, mine were badly worn and as they are welded on it presents a bit of a problem. these are originally 8mm tension pins top & bottom. I decided to do something better. There is not too much thickness on the hinge bodies and removing metal in situ is not easy as you can imagine. I decided to open the holes out to 8,20mm and make up some solid hinge pins from the shanks of some 8,20mm long series drills I ground the shank of the flutted section of the drill wit the dremmel with a cutting disc on it
A small was added to the pins and a grub screw fitted though the outer section of the hinges I also added a small hole (about 2mm diameter) to the inner section of the hinges so some oil can be added when needed

A sigh of relief now the door is on, the whole A post was rebuilt from scratch if you can all remember.... Door gaps are very good No shims at all at the top and only a 1mm shm added to the bottom to get the gaps right

Obviously one drill will make one pin so you will need 4 drills.....

The reamer you will need is an 8,20mm HAND Reamer, these have a tapered lead on them and will pick up in the existing holes, care is needed along with some cutting fluid when reaming them out. As some of the wear takes place on the original pins and some in the hinges 0,20mm was enough to remore all the wear from mine although you could go slightly bigger provided you can get hold of the right size hand reamer but not too much or the hinge will be weakened.
