SOLD : 1.7 16v inlet manifolds for carbs / throttle bodies

Post by JetJackson »

I bought these manifolds a few years ago as I was planning to carb or put after market injection on a 1.7 16v for my sud.

Eventually I have done neither and as the clearout continues they are up for grabs.

Hi mate

one thing you'll get asked everytime on these items, is who or where were they from originally?

there were 3 common sources, Motorman253, and ebay seller from greece, Gazoli, possibly the original Italian versions, and the German versions.

i don't think they are the german versions that a bunch of us did a group buy for a few years back, because they have the the mount plate cast into them for the linkage mounts etc, so they'll either be Gazoli's or the Greek Guy's?

do you remember which :?:

I honestly don't know.

I've trawled my old mails to try to find the source but I don't know.

They seem well made and high quality.

I've a set of the motorman ones (one of the few that don't leak it seems) and they don't have those ridges where the coolant pipes connect.

Yes i noticed them, and with the beefed up raised material down by the lower mounts, i'm betting these are the Gozzoli ones.

Certainly not the Di Michele versions from Germany we did a group buy on, and as you say, they look a bit too good for the motorman ones, although i do hear that they are greatly improved after our initial moanings a few years ago :D

There is obviously an interesting back-story here I'm not aware of!

Well, I'm not going down the 16v / aftermarket injection or carbs route now so I need to give somebody else the opportunity to use them!

Its just that the early versions of the Motorman manifolds were thought of as quite suspect quality, a few users reported the fuel charge becoming wet because of porous castings and therefore the coolant leaking through to the fuel charge side, so most folk would always prefer the German Di Michele's or Italian Gozzoli's.

That said, i'm led to believe that the Greek Motorman manifolds are now improved to the point of being fine,

but this may all sound a mute point now,

change of plan?

For me, yes. I have a good sub 70K 16v motor too that I will list at some point.
