Here's a rarity...

It's a Trofeo but an edition which was exclusive to the French market.

There were two series of Trofeo Special Editions in France. The first was a pre-facelift (Series 1) 1500cc Sprint launched in 1982 with colour-matched wheels, B posts and side stripes, tweed upholstery, glass sunroof and chrome bumpers. In France, the first-series Trofeo was a limited edition of just 400 cars.

However, for the French market, there was a second-series Sprint Veloce Trofeo launched in late 1983 based around the facelifted Sprint 1300 and limited to only 200 cars. Extras included plastic lower side protection panels, a sunroof and larger alloy wheels instead of the 13" steel wheels of the base car.

It also featured the grey side stripes to the car's flanks but without the colour-matched B posts or wheel inner spokes of the first-series Sprint Trofeo. It cost, in France, 5000 francs more than the standard Sprint 1.3 coupe at the time of sale.

It is indeed a rare thing.

What is he missing out on selling it to fund a VW ?

The Sprint I once had was great fun, esp on a wet dark night with the engine humming away and the handling being so confidence inspiring.

It certainly represents spectacular value for money when you consider that UK examples have been sold for £10-13K!
Here's an 'official' factory photograph of the French Sprint Veloce Trofeo:

Was this the car that was in a salvage yard and was going to be cut up to make repair panels?
Some of us said it looked repairable and would be a shame to destroy a rare car. So , hopefully, if it is the one glad to see it wasn't cut up. 8-)

That rings a bell!

I think it was me that might have suggested it was the French version.

It had rather damaged rear quarter/s didnt it? :?:

Yep. That's the one. It ended up being very much repairable so thankfully the car didn't get dismantled and cut up.

It may be worth a punt especially when you consider that Sprints are selling for anything up to £12k in the UK these days.

vtecmike posted up the original find in France, about three pages back in the parts for sale section.
Glad it got fixed and hope he found parts else where to finish his car.
