I've just seen this on the AROC website and if my car is eligible I'm going to crack on and attempt the Castle Coombe event in May.

I'll let you know what happens...

I'm planning to be at the first event at Silverstone.

It looks likely we (suds and sprints) will be incorporated into the pre 83 series invitation class.

I will be supporting Richard Murtha and Aroc and going for a number of these races, but I was told that the hscc might also accept 1970's registered cars in the odd race via invitation class in 70's roadsports, and they have a cadwell date so I might look into that one.

Looks like CTCRC have incorporated the old pre 74 series and pre 83 together so an interesting mix of cars.

Adsblacksud - what car / engine are you running? Why not open up a thread on your car in this section.

I have a 1982 Sud that used to run in class F in the 90's - it's black..

I have sent a message to Richard Murtha to see if will be eligible to race as it is currently fitted with a 1.7 16v.

I had a thread running on alfaowner that I abandoned, the work carried out up to the middle of 2013 carried out by my son and I is shown here.

http://www.puntosports.co.uk/forums/sho ... ck-day-car

The car is currently waiting for paint and electrics, to race will need a new seat and belts; I've not taken many photos recently but will when the car is prepped and painted.

Thanks,

Adam

You should be ok with the 16v, being both under the aroc banner and the CTCRC invitation class it ought to be fine. The invitation class is for cars that are close but not quite true to the regs. To run in a CTCRC championship class it would need to be a 1500.

Simon (Marlowsud on this forum) ran his 16v sprint in the pre 83 with me in the ctcrc at cadwell this year, although that was a last minute thing as the aroc race was cancelled at the eleventh hour.

Anyhow, I'm sure it will be ok, as fuller grids make more money for the CTCRC !

Who raced your sud in class F, do you know? I raced a white series 2 sud in class F, followed by a red 33 if F (which became D).

It would be interesting to know how many sud/sprint racers are still out there.

I have my sprint and a sud racer in bits, you have one, Simon has 2 suds and a sprint, Ted and Tim Lewis have modified Sud and Sprint respectively, a chap called Steve Dymoke has/had a modified Sud. Richard Drake has a now black/napolina livery sud, Ian Brookfield still has his white/red sud, the ex Graham Heels/ Martin Jones green/red sud (series 1) still exists somewhere, a red sud racer (Kinnell?) sold recently I think. James (new member junior on here) has the series 1 turbo sud racer that sold at anglia car auctions, and to top it off an aroc member whose name escapes me (even though i met him at Brands his year) has the original btcc napolina sud racer in a state of restoration. There are 2 suds that race in Scotland and Rodger Motherwells modified Sprint up in Scotland........if we could find a few more we could hold a sud/sprint race!

Hi all

Having just read through the build thread, I have to say, you beat me to a lot of things in there adam :D

My spring sud rebuild will reflect a lot of those improvements and modifications too, so dont think I'm plagurising too much will you ;)

Great to know its coming together again and you're looking to use it properly too, keep us posted on that won't you.

Thanks for the comments chaps, the mods I made I pinched / was inspired from others ideas anyway.

I'll start a new thread shortly and add new pics as I go.

As far as the AROC race is concerned, it'll be my son driving as he has kart racing experience and I'm likely to get in everyone's way.

This is him in his 458 bhp (I kid you not) turbo Civic overtaking a TVR Chimaera at Castle Combe in July.

Looks like us old blokes will get beaten by your boy then.......! :D

Will you be planning to enter any of the other race dates ?

Look forward to seeing you both if so.

Thanks for the encouragement Tim,

Looking at the calendar, if we get to Castle Combe and all is well then we would like to do another event.

Pembrey looks interesting but I reckon is likely to clash with the MITCAR Sud collective bash which I would like to go to, so maybe we'll try Thruxton,

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Guys,
I spoke to the CTCRC about the Trofeo not meeting their rules because it has 8in wide wheels. It is under 1300cc but I can race with the standard wheels in the Championship if I want by being bumped up into the under 1600cc class which is great.

Will the original Sud racers come out to play in 2015 and show us how it is done?

All the best,
Simon

Ooh Simon, that sounds a fantastic proposition doesnt it, we can but hope :D

Shame about not being able to run yours in the smaller class and with the correct 8j wheels,

I think thats a little bit petty personally, but, if you can get out there at all, thats gonna be awesome! :P

Shrew - in fairness to the CTCRC or any other club, They have to stay true to the regs that people have gone to effort and expense to build their cars to originally for the series especially if they have been in place for a long time. Changing or bending regs can be expensive for the racer.

They already have an invitation class that cars that dont meet the regs but are close to them can run in, they just don't give points or class wins for the invitation class.

Main thing is that myself and Simon have an interesting grid of 70's and 80's cars to put our suds into. I'm hoping we will see a few more turn up.

Fair comment Tim, very true,

But to build that type of entrant car today would be near impossible, plus in todays cash strapped environment, i think theyre could be room for regulation allowances that would make the racing effort worth entering longer term.

Or am i just trying to barge my 16v in somewhere?

Your 16v would probably go in the invitation class, so same race just different class.

In reality, points are, erm, pointless unless you plan to do a full season to win the class or outright.

Hi Shrew,
Will you bring out your 16V? Go on. The CTCRC guys at Cadwell were really welcoming. I personally like mixing it up with Dolomite Sprints, Rover P6s, Capris etc.
Very happy to be in with the 1300-1600cc cars. Happy to have a compliant car if I want to compete in the Championship but I am not fussed about that. The commentator was getting very excited about seeing two Alfasud Sprints together on the track as I was trying to keep up with Tim. The more Alfas the merrier but personally I would love to see as many Suds as possible. At Cadwell last year, Ted would have been up in 3rd/4th mixing it with the Escorts!

All the best,
Simon

I'm not sure it would ever comply Simon i'm afraid, seats, cage, extinguisher system blah blah blah, a fortune to get in spec and back in date i should think, a fortune i don't have being the biggest obstacle,

and then i'd have to proven fit for racing, and that's probably even tougher! lol!

On the money pit side of racing, for anyone thinking about getting into it, or returning a reminder that HANS will become compulsory in 2016 even for club events so plan ahead with any new helmets or seat.

So that's, helmet, race suit, gloves, boots, seat, harness, extinguisher and HANS all in date and to latest regs.

Race meet definitely sounds like a great idea. Id be up for that.

Can anyone tell me a good resource for finding all the regs and specs? I'm a bit off that stage yet! but need to have an eye on it.

Not got any current pictures, and monthly it reduces as i've now pulled the motor, gearbox, etc etc

Engine is a stock, freshly rebuilt 1712cc 16v from a pre-cat 33 qv, so should be circa 135bhp, and hopefully improve on that once i get to rebuilding the car into the Trofeo type thing.

As for a CAF race car, i think its a wonderful idea, and a CAF class annual race outing as such, marvellous idea too! :D

Jon

The base MSA regs (known as the blue book in pre online/cloud days) can now all be found in online PDF docs.

Have a look on the MSA website.

Even if you don't plan to race, I'd still recommend you do your cage to min MSA specs so that you or another owner could take it racing.

Hi All I,m new to the Forum but not new to Suds!! good to see some of you are going to be racing in the Pre-83 Touring Car series as I plan to do as many races as I can this year.I have a Class F Sud with a 1.7 engine unmodified. Not sure about doing Silverstone (dreadful place) but if there was a few Suds out...... :)

Hi Roch

Funnily enough I like Silverstone... :D

I plan to be at Silverstone in a 1500 sprint (thread on here, white one), Simon in his Trofeo and Malcom (Simon's brother) in a Sud 1600.

So, you could make it a quartet ....you know it makes sense!

Usual question, what colour is your car and who raced it, I might remember it.

Siverstone..... the circuit is fine its just the paddocks & the viewing that is poor. You might know me better as Ian Brookfield & my Sud is the red & white one, which I have owned & raced since 1996.If there is going to be a few out at Silverstone I better join you!do you know what other rounds you are going to do??
