Newbie Introduction

Post by Marlow Sud »

Hello All,

My first Sud was a 1976 1.2Ti when I was 17 in the early 80s.
Sud South of France.JPG
I went on to buy a series 2 1.5Ti in red.
I never got to buy the 105 Green Cloverleaf Sud that we thought was the best car ever - it was just too expensive for me as an apprentice.
Fast forward more than 30 years and I am now 50. My school mate from Belgium emails me an ebay link for a black 1.5Ti series 2 Sud for sale and I buy it immediately.

I like working on the Sud when I dont rely on it for transport and I now have the cash to do jobs once and properly. Its a real trip down memory lane as I even have cassettes from 30 years ago to play in the car. I love tracking down spares and the Sud is a joy to drive. I am fortunate to have access to a de-humidified barn to keep the Sud in.
Next up I find a Series 1 1.3 Ti in red. I travel to Cork to pick it up and drive it back. This is the most classic Sud for me. I love the stylish interior.

I have the bug now and find the 105 Green Cloverleaf I always wanted.

So I had three road going Suds.

Part 2 to follow.

I reckon its a bit greedy having three Suds and I cannot bring them all up to the standard I want. I have sold the series 1 to an AROC member and I am looking forward to seeing it in immaculate condition at future shows. I will also sell the Series 3 shortly and keep just the black Series 2.

At work we take clients to Palmersport and love trying to get the best lap time. I have often wondered what it would be like in a proper race. A Sud Sprint racer came up for sale and I bought it.
P1000366.JPG
Three of us from work took our ARDS tests and decided to have a go at one race each. My race was with AROC at Cadwell and I loved it. Chris raced at Brands Hatch with AROC and my brother Malcolm is racing at Oulton Park on 25th October. The car handles brilliantly and is great fun but the engine is revving to just 6000 rpm. You can hear the Suds revving to 7000rpm plus.................more speed!
So, a BLS engined Sud comes up for sale in Yorkshire and I picked it up yesterday.
IMG_0855.JPG
So Malcolm and I will be racing against each other at Oulton park. My wife asked me which car we would each drive.............Well, I am going to drive the fastest one. I know, its not fair but as he beats me by 1/10th of a second in the Karts at Palmersport I need everything in my favour.
The Sud story is not over yet. I am very very excited about the next Sud. Here is a clue:

Great tale to date, lovely cars.

The teaser looks a very well prepared and good spec beastie!

I like that throttle linkage and coolant manifold, very different and far less cluttered, something ive been looking at doing on my own cars for a while.

Keep it coming.....

Thanks for the comments guys.

Shrew - Its a 1974 1286cc Alfasud Ti Trofeo so I assume the stuff you are seeing is part of the Autodelta kit. The engine is fresh from re-build and supposedly 150bhp. The car has a long race history. Hope to be able to tell you more in November.

Brgds,
Simon

i had a feeling those trumpets were the Autodelta supplied trofeo equipment, but the trofeo cars are so rare these days, i've never seen one complete yet!

Cut and paste from the 'green meanie' thread just to keep it all under Simon's new thread :

The Car looks great......I think it was car I tried to buy a long, long time ago when it was more of a production spec racer (brown in colour), someone beat me to it at the time and I'm sure it was Phil Woolley and a friend of his - I think they changed the colour to yellow?

Its clearly been rebuilt significantly since then, look forward to seeing it.

The manifold set up looks great.

Veesix75 - You are spot on. The car was brown, then painted yellow, then red.

KevJTD - I loved that 1.2Ti. I reckon it is the most free revving and sweetest Sud engine.

i think the pic of the interior shot which is of course a LHD car is from a brochure, sure i've seen that exact shot before, and the mileage gives the game away

looking at the pic of the 3 together the steering wheel can be seen on the right on the S2 car

some great pix coming up on this thread though 8-)

Hi Simon,
Great looking car, ;)
The original Trofeo spoiler was larger than the standard SI Ti rear spoiler and one is shown below:

Thanks VeccioAlfa. I had a look at Trofeocars.com and the Nino Campani Trofeo Sud has a different version again?
