Time fly’s, even when your not having fun, must be an age thing, it’s almost race season again.

Usual season opener at Donington on March 30th, car checked over today, just need some new brake pads otherwise all good.

Hi Tim,
Good luck for this season.
Our first race is Oulton Park on 23 March.
The CTCRC is getting popular and they have recently opened up the rules so cars Meeting FIA regs can join in.
A Fiesta recently joined in and caused a stir. Good driver but I note from the Burton catalogue that a 1.6 Fiesta engine can be tuned to produce 185bhp! So I am comforting myself with that.
It’s good to have a bit of a shake up.
Have a great year.

Brgds
Simon

Thanks Simon , and you.

I really like the ctcrc, but I’m underpowered with a 1500. It’s a shame everyone goes for the bigger engines, but if I were to build another I’d go for a fast ford or a golf like you, so much more readily available options to get the power from them.

I am hoping to join you at Caldwell though in September for the festival.

Here’s what’s racing at Donington Saturday https://hscc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/ ... ner-V2.pdf

I have a couple of spare tickets if anyone wants one, send a pm with your email adress and I’ll send an e-ticket you can print at home.

Managed to get a second race for £99 so I’m on twice.

I’m racing at Silverstone on sat 18th May. I’ve got a spare ticket if anyone wants one, theyre paper ones so you’d have to meet me at the gates about 8:30am or I could post. Send me a pm.

The Dunlop saloon series is racing, touring cars from 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s, the rest is classic single seaters, and classic sports cars, plus the 70’s series I’m in.

It’s the Grand Prix circuit so there will be a few quiet patches for spectators as we get round it.

Nice result today Tim.

It looks like there was a pack of you from 10th to 14th position!

We’re you getting held up.

All the best,
Simon

A really poor qualifying, it was wet and then rained as we went out. I could blame lack of knowledge of the GP circuit but I just hate the wet. Qualified 26th from 34, and the cars I’m usually racing with we’re 16th so I was 5 rows back.

Thankfully dried out for the race, rolling start which was interesting, but set about trying to make my way through the grid. Lost count of the overtaking moves, the latter half was trading places with a pack of cars quicker on the straights (lotus and Porsche) but slower in the bends. The aim was to get in front of the Bertone coupe (100). I did pass him, but he got me back and I then got tangled back up with the Porsche 914.

Great race though, more passing, losing places, retaking places than I can remember. I set a target of a 2:50 lap time, we did a 2:48 and I reckon with some clear air we could have taken another second off. Pleased overall as the GP is a power circuit and my 1500 held up against the bigger engined cars.

The GP circuit is awesome once you’ve got to grips with it.

Nice to see Keith, and the Dunlop touring cars was a really varied grid.

I was reading the 70’s roadsports race report, Silverstone I ended 11th from 26th. To be fair some dnf’s Would have been in front of me. The guy writing the report made two interesting observations, 1st I was the only front wheel drive car on the grid of 30+ cars, and 2nd one of 56 Sprints left on that how many website, he got the latter wrong as there are 10. There must be more than 10 sprints taxed and /or sorn’d ?

Fingers crossed for a dry weekend at Cadwell, new cranks shells fitted for maintenance, and rain light repaired after a temporary bodge due to failing scruitineering for the first time ever at Silverstone. I think my tyres have had it but they will have to do for this event.

Hi Tim,
What power and torque are you getting from your rolling road sessions?

About 150bhp corrected at the flywheel according to the rollers on the current engine, torque I can’t remember, about 100 to 105 I think.

150bhp is very healthy. Are you using high revs to get that?

Max power is at 7800rpm, I change at 7500rpm for that little bit of engine life. It revs to 8000rpm on the rollers. It has a std crank.

I could probably squeeze a bit more from it lap time wise if I went to max every time but it does well enough without. The 2 litre Bertones I race against are 160+ bhp, the loti probably a lot more and very lightweight.

I agree Tim, there must be more than that left

and that was a quality repair, not a bodge

So, Croft is up next on the 3rd and 4th of August.

At Cadwell I struggled to drop into 4th from 5th and getting 2nd was hard, felt like the gear linkage.

Great news, I found the small rubber NOS that connects the selector rod to the selector shaft from the chap in Greece , and I found the round bush NOS that the Sud gear stick itself fits into (so when no good feels like stirring porridge) and ordered both.

Went to fit them today, pulled the gear stick gaitor up and low and behold I have a 33 gear stick and tail ! Note to self, check actual old parts before ordering new.

the Selector rod rubber was the same, but as per the wanted ads I need a 33 gear stick bush.

I think the selector rod rubber has cured 90% of the vagueness anyhow, but be nice to have the other bush replaced also.

Early notice I’ll be racing with the ctcrc pre 83 guys on sat 24th august at donington, and sat 7th September at Cadwell.

I’ll be on the back of the grid, but should be good meetings and races on the day.
