Fuel tank

I wondered what race cars use for fire/impact protection around the fuel tank.

My TVR Vixen project has a 12 gall tank mounted across the rear of the car.
Its oval in section, and at the rearmost point is nearly touching the rear panel!

Suggestions made to me have been polystyrene beads used in bean bags.....which apparently have a fire rating.
Or fire rated foam out of a spray can.

I don’t Dave, I have an original tank cut in half and mounted in the original place under the floor.

If you want to feel a bit more reassured then you could fabricate an aluminium box around the tank.

Have a look at race tanks and cells on demon tweeks for ideas.

Oddly enough, I spoke to Demon Tweeks today.
They told me they had no products relating to external fuel tank protection.

I meant more for how they are constructed, might help you decide it’s ok after all.
