CTCRC Pre 83 2018

Post by Marlow Sud »

Hi guys,
The season is over now so I thought I would give you a quick summary.
Duncan, Malcolm and I are all running Golf Gti Mk1 Cars. We need the full 1848cc and a good chassis if we are going to challenge the Escort 2 litre cars. We also need to drive them consistently well as the guys in the front pack are good drivers.
We have been to a limited number of meetings this year due to family commitments and we are ironing out various car issues. This is a real lesson. If you buy a car that is new to you and you are on a budget, I reckon it takes at least a season to iron out all the issues.
We are all using the same rolling road and have different power outputs. Dunc on KJet injection is about 140bhp. Akai Golf is 157bhp and Green Golf is 167bhp. It’s clear we need more power as the Escorts accelerate away on the straights.
We have a plan for more power for all three cars. Gear ratios will need looking at for a higher revving engine and we also need better LSDs.
Weight reduction is not an issue on the Golf. You have to be careful not to be under weight.
We have upgraded the brakes and will also be looking at improved handling this winter.
The last meeting was Brands Hatch and it was cold so I put an extra 3psi in all the tyres. Big mistake. My qualifying was terrible. At std pressures the car was so much better.
Here are two of us at Brands. The ATS cup wheels look great and comply with the regs but also have the perfect offset.

We had a good time at Brands. The second race it was a damp track so times were slightly down but we are moving up the pack.

Looking to do better next year.
