my new toy

Post by KevJTD »

I was going to add this car into my workshop projects page but as it's not really a project and doesn't really need anything much doing, plus I've never had a thread in this lounge, i'll post some pictures here :D

we actually came to an arrangement for me to have this car off Tim almost 2 years ago when we discussed me painting Tims' race sprint, it's taken me this amount of time to get myself into gear to have the car, although Tim losing his parking space hurried things along a bit! never did get around to track days with it last year, or 2016 come to that!

it has some nice bits on it, GAZ suspension, full cage, race seats & belts, decent brakes, good tyres, induction kit etc. really peppy engine that just sounds so eager, great crackle from the exhaust too, Tim assures me it's a flyer and I can see how it will be, looking forward to getting around Cadwell in it this summer, justr need to keep away from the barriers :D

not overly sold on the carbon bonnet but i'll see if it grows on me, as id did with tim

lol, not very often I own something non Italian JB, trying now to remember when the last one was? did own a VW Passat for about 3 weeks about 15 years ago....saying that I do also recall having a clio runaround about 10 years ago...

it's the 2 litre 16V 172 BHP one Keith, should feel pretty quick with the few mods it's had plus the weight it's lost 8-)

Keith, it is a Clio RS172, the latter being the factory bhp figure as well as model designation.

It's a great car, I'll miss it, but equally didn't use it since the sprint racer and hope Kev gets to enjoy it as much as I did.

Ade - if I can find the coil over adjuster key to soften it off a bit suspect Kev might do some Tarmac stages ?

And yes Kev, stay away from those barriers, but at the same time fill your boots !

Win win all round, I get some 'Kev' time for my rusty alfas and Kev gets a Clio track car to thrash around Cadwell. :D

Always was in the back of my mind that it'd make a great tarmac rally weapon Ade...... ;)

Cadwell usually gets one or two 172/182 Clios which do seem just the ticket. Certainly wouldn't rule out doing an event or two, never say never :)

I have a kit of parts for this car if you are interested. AT Itb's, cat cams and an ECU already programmed with a loom. Should be good for over 200bhp. PM if you are interested.

No point in going on track if you're not trying mate, or off track for that matter :)
My motto is find the limit then come back a bit, trouble is the Suds' limit was too low with the back end grip, hoping I've enough brave pills to find the Clios' limit ;)

I didn't weigh it, but I'd estimate 950KG, it has all its glass still and the wheels are quite chunky.

Thats not bad. I think my Suds started at 935 and ended up as 872KG. But 117bhp not 175bhp! Lovely.
