Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
Question:
- after mounting the front lip, the breakes over heated (wobbeling when breaking after some laps), any suggestions on ventilation?
One idea is to cut out a part in the front side panel behind the weel to let the warm air out and to put a tube from the front fender hole and guide it back to the breaks to let cold air in.
Any other suggestions??

Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
Run ducting from the lower air intakes on the bumper - you need to get air in as it's much more effective than extraction only.
Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
Will try something in that nature, but feel the need for both ari in and out.
New question: power steering
I know there is some electrical power steeering fra a Opel that could be use, but which Opel and have anyone done this (pics, description on how-to?)

I was about to say cut the powersteering belt
Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
Yep real men have no power steering
Plus that will gain you some more bhp to the wheels

Yeah right... I see.....
Ok, but if "a friend of mine" would like to have an electrical power steering on his 33, how should he solve this? Anyone have a friend who have done this (to his road car of course, not his racer). Me as a racer obviously don't know this......

Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
Alot of people use corsa electric power steering and modify the steering column you can pick the corsa bits for about £75. You then wire in a viable switch to make the steering ecu think the wheels are going fast or slow as it works on the abs pick ups on the corsa

Well guy's, not far from Heaven to Hell in racing....
New raceweekend, new track record (for class 4 at Vålerbanen) during qualification, victory in heat and class in race 7, but then the fun part it was over.....
During warm up to race 8, the welding on the damper bracket said good bye, I lost control of the car and ended up in the sand trap.
Here is "before" and "after" pictures of the damper, and the leftovers of my new front splitter....

Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
those were intrax struts weren't they?
a failure like that could have been very serious, glad you and the car are ok

Now, some days after, I'm VERY happy it happend during warm up, and not i high speed during the race.
My new front lip went to hell, but I don't think anything else got hit. Had a talk with Intrax today, and they where baffeld when they saw the pictures. They will make a new strut for me, and hopefully I will make the last race weekend September 27th, but not sure.....

Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
Well, then the season is over, and after a disappointing weekend with 2 x 4 th place, I ended second in class overall.
The last two races on Rudskogen Raceway, I was overrunned by V6's and turbo's that likes the looooong straight hight speed circuit. The boxer took the start, and in race 9 I jumped from 8th start grid to first in corner two, but surly then the bigger engines got their rew's up, and I was left in the dust to die.....
Managed to hold the no. 1 car in class overall behind me in 6 laps, but had to let the V6 pass on the straight with just 2 laps left. If I had managed to stay in front, I would have won the class overall with with equal point, but more class victories, but must be happy with second in a class with 13 cars.
Not sure the engine is healty!! On training it was a lot of sound, so after a check we found that the distributor cap was damaged, and the senter pin defective. I got hold off a new on from one of my competitors, and it sounded and went better, but still something is missing on full. There is something else, but not sure what. It don't pull as good as before the crash last weekend, and one suggestion is a burned valve and/or bad fuel pressure.
I have the winter to sort this out, and also plan for upgrades - I NEED MORE TOP SPEED.....!!!!!!!

Well done mate
Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
Here is video from race 9 from one of my competitors, and the good start Don C. on the left side. The red Alfa Romeo 156 is the car I needed to keep behind me...as I did for 6 laps....just to bad the race was 8 laps....

Any suggestions......??? I MUST beat the V6 and turbo next year....Johnboy wrote:So what's tha plans over the winter then?
In the film you can see a gray Alfasud running on same engine as me, but with carbs and some other goodies, so thats maybe the way to go....

This year it was a "media war" in class 4 before the final raceweekend. It startet with #101 launching this video:

Then came class leader #74 with this one:

Are you using standart ecu ?Brovold wrote:Any suggestions......??? I MUST beat the V6 and turbo next year....Johnboy wrote:So what's tha plans over the winter then?

Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
Yes, standard ECU. Have an offer on Emerald ECU, but what will I gain? Any experience on how?
Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
Entertaining (and professional!) videos!
What do your regulations allow/not allow? Is top end power your real weakness on the circuits you race on - or would an LSD be more beneficial to get onto the straights quicker? Both would obviously be the way to go! Tell us more!

Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
We have a excel sheet to calculate after, and class is result of kg/hp. Class 4 is min 7kg per hp:
http://www.corsaitaliana.no/om-corsa-it ... eberegning
My car weigh 940kg incl driver and petrol when finished, no LSD, original 16V engine, original down pipes, 195/50/15 tires
I think I can add ECU and new downpipes if I hold the weight, or LSD. There is also hp added if I change camshafts and so on, so I have to twist my brain to get the best set up according to the excel sheet and still stay in class 4

Re: From Road car to Race car - Alfa 33
With a really carefully built engine - Group N type blueprinted with compression ratio upped a little and ports matched, etc, an optimised exhaust and a re-mappable ignition I'm sure you'll gain some reasonable power without having to resort to cams and head mods. Cams would obviously help but may of course tip you over the power to weight formula.
An LSD will definitely give you a benefit - perhaps more so than the above on tight twisty circuits.
What sort of time do you need to find per lap compared to rivals?

Great videos Can you save anymore weight from the car? How much more power are you a loud to have?
