Hi Keith,
In fairness to the Capri, his tyres were getting awfully hot from the looks of things and they get very slidey. It was 32deg.

Re: Escort Hunter Killer
Hi Keith,
The brakes were getting really hot. Lots of rising smoke when I left the track and had to hold it on the brakes to talk to an official.
I have fitted the old dust pan style scoops but space is pretty limited so I made up some little alloy deflectors.
This CV joint boot had tywraps on it so it had flung grease everywhere. I have the proper bands and tool on the way to sort this.
I took the opportunity to check the pads and de-glaze the Discs.
The dust pans should make a difference.

Re: Escort Hunter Killer
Yes, it is possible to fix something like this. BUT, you need the right place to do the job.
There is just one here in Christchurch, NZ but that's not much help to you!

Hi AlfettaGTAM,
I have found an alloy wheel welding company close by in High Wycombe. I will let you know what they say.

Re: Escort Hunter Killer
Hi Guys,
From looking at some other peoples videos I make smoke when braking. The brakes smoke like crazy when I have finished a race. I assumed they were just getting hot but my brake fluid level for the front brakes was getting lower.
I think the front caliper piston seals are leaking fluid on to the back of very hot pads.
Anyway, the calipers are old Wilwoods so time for new ones. I took the opportunity to fit new braided hoses and the pads are RC6.
Should stop better now and no more smoke.

They look some serious kit.
When and where is your first outing Simon?

Re: Escort Hunter Killer
The rc6 are excellent, initial bite is 5 times better than the ferodo ds3000. You might find you go slower per lap initially as the brakes are stopping you more than you were used to before !
The Akai livery looks great

Re: Escort Hunter Killer
Great advice thanks Tim. Not sure if I will have my new engine for the first race of the season but I am doing Oulton Park on 23rd March Keith.
My header tank fouls my brake master cylinders as follows:
I took the opportunity today of replacing it with a nice alloy Concept Racing one:
All the best,

Re: Escort Hunter Killer
That header tank Simon, looks a bit low?
For it to work it needs to be higher than the rad and more importantly, the head so that air comes to the tank and not sit in the parts you don't want air..
Love the nice big brakes though

It’s a fair point Kev.
I will check it out to ensure it is higher than the top of the rad and the cylinder head cooling passages.
All the best,
Simon

Last thing you want is an air lock in the head mate!
Hopefully I'll be able to catch up this summer somewhere to see the car out on track

The header tank is now high enough Kev.
There should be time to get the new engine in before Brands Hatch at the end of April.
Some significant changes to wheel geometry and the suspension by JMR should make the car go round corners much faster at Oulton Park this Saturday. There should be time to get the new engine in before Brands Hatch at the end of April.
Re: Escort Hunter Killer
I'll be at Oulton on Saturday too having a run out (test session in reality) with the Classic Thunder grid - see you there Simon!

Re: Escort Hunter Killer
Hi Bryan,
Great to see you, Tom and Shrew at Oulton Park. I hope it was a successful shake-down day for you all.
I had a disappointing qualifying session being timed 7 seconds slower than my previous days time. Anyway, I was relying on the fact it takes a while for the penny to drop and I am always slow at first.
I had a great time in both races. I saw the clerk of the course about my 10 second penalty in Race 1. I was outside my start box. When you see the video, its really bad! I clearly wasn't thinking. I do remember thinking that I was going to get into the gap between the two cars in front. So 10 seconds was added to my race time. Fortunately, I was more than 10 seconds ahead of the next Group C car. In race 7, you will see I stopped well back from the grid mark - lesson learnt. It didnt have much effect on the Golf which launches itself off the line.
Qualifying 15th - fastest lap time: 2.14.189 doh!
Finishing Race 1 in 8th - fastest lap time: 2.04.188
Finishing Race 7 in 7th - fastest lap time: 2.03.631
The race winner is around the 2.00 lap time mark in our series. The car handles really well and is very good under braking. The new engine/gearbox/LSD/clutch combination should get me in the front pack.

Re: Escort Hunter Killer
Fantastic starts, the car is clearly quick as it stands. Now my quickest lap I think is 2:12 so I’m not in the best position to give advice when you have done a 2:03, however watching the vid I reckon you could find 1 to 2 secs in the car as it is by staying a bit longer on the power, and later on the brakes, flat over cascades and up clay hill etc . However looks and sounds very impressive.
