Anyone read italian?
I think that Nicola Moffa was driving my Alfasud under the General Classification - 1300cc but not sure.
The paper dates it too.

Hi Guys,

Now I have got over it. Here is a video from Sam Goodwins car showing my big off at Lydden 1 min into the video.
Its looks like I am re-joining the track voluntarily. I got spat onto the track and did not want to be there.
Very well done to Sam for his quick reactions and evasive driving - much appreciated Sam.

Hi Guys,

Hey Keith, you got me thinking so I asked the previous owner a few questions!

Just had some exciting news from the previous owner of the Alfasud Trofeo - Mr Franco Marianara.
This Trofeo Rally Car is Reg 191942CB (No 77). This was Franco's first rally car which he wrote off but kept all the mechanical items and a lot of them have been used on CB80008.
CB80008 Pic2.tif
CB80008 Pic2.tif (1.1 MiB) Viewed 18291 times
Franco then bought this white Trofeo 1300 Reg CB80008 from Nicola Moffa. This is my car being driven by Moffa with an article date of 17th May 1979.
IL_TEMPO (581x800).jpg
Nicola Moffa Raced/Rallied CB80008 until 1982. All the races/rallies are represented by stickers on the nearside rear window.
Moffa won the annual Alfa Romeo award twice for being the fastest Alfasud driver in Italy. 1978 looks like a good year for Moffa as follows:

2a COPPA CITTA' DI TERAMO - TROFEO ORVEA
15 OTTOBRE 1978

1° MOFFA NICOLA ALFA ROMEO ALFASUD 165,4
2° ABBANDONATO SERGIO ALFA ROMEO ALFASUD 190,7
3° BOSCO GIOVANNI ALFA ROMEO ALFETTA GT 1800 197,0
4° FERENTE ANTONIO RENAULT ALPINE 197,1
5° DI FULVIO CORRADO RENAULT GORDINI 16 199,4
6° MARTELLA MARCELLO WOKSWAGEN GOLT GTI 204,0
7° MANCINI GIUSEPPE ALFA ROMEO ALFASUD 212,2
8° DIVISI GIANNI LANCIA FULVIA 216,5
8° ROMANI ANTONIO AUTOBIANCHI A112 216,5
9° FERRANTE VINICIO AUTOBIANCHI A112 217,4
10° BIENTINESI EMO OPEL KADETT GTE 218,7

Hope this is interesting.

It is nice to know that you keep in touch with the previous owner. It all adds to the cars career.
Enjoyed Sam's footage, it was a big off you had !
Loved the veiw at 14:05, shame it was three Alfas behind him, but you got past.
Duncan was doing well.
Sam has a slick gear change. (apart from when a little Alfa flusters him :D )
Great stuff. Thanks.
Keith.

Some good luck came your way there Simon thankfully. Sam did well in his 1300 fiesta, and some nice cars on the grid overall.

Hello CAF
Well Lydden was an interesting experience, probably slightly more so for Simon as per the posts above!
A short circuit and quite up and down. A bit of a car breaker and seemed to be very well suited to the 2 litre escorts.
The front left tyre is shot due to the workload it had to do.
Qualifying was good for about 4 laps before someone kindly laid their oil down in a heavy braking area just to liven things up. This area was also fresh tarmac so lots to contend with and some buttock clenching moments.

The racing was good but full on with a big grid of pre '83 cars on a short and intense track (no long 'wellington straight' moments to take a breather and re-compose).
I was racing the silver Firenza of Gary Fletcher pretty much all of race 1 and 2.
In the first race I left the braking too late and got all 'waggy tail' just before the tight left hander going up the hill. This allowed the Firenza past. In my rear view mirror I was accompanied by a 4.2 litre Jag for the rest of the race.

In race 2 I was chopped a little by a Capri and had to jump onto the grass which allowed the Firenza past again with yet another silver Firenza with stripes hanging onto me for a while.

You can find the video's here along with an old video I found from when I first raced with the CTCRC in the Sprint at Silverstone national.

Hi Malcolm,
I see what you mean. No wonder your left tyre is shot there is no let up. Looks a very tight track.
Do you think you would do it again?

Hi Guys,
The results are in for Lydden and it's all pretty tight in Class D.
Sam Goodwin is doing well in class E.
Malcolm had two impressive wins at Lydden, no wonder he wore the offside tyre down.
Tony Crates is still in the mix with the Lotus Cortina Mk2.

Hi Chaps,

Thruxton today. Never driven there before.
Malcolm and I were learning during qualifying.
Malcolm did brilliantly today punching way above his weight. He got held up at the start by a stalled BMW 3.0 CSL and clawed his way through.
IMG_6736.PNG
I was pleased with my time as I am one handed through the chicane and various corners holding the gear lever in third.
I often lose a second or two because it won't go into fifth straight away which is essential for thruxton. The fastest track for me so far is Snetterton with an average speed of 70mph and the Thruxton average is 83mph with the race leaders at 91mph so a fast track!
We think it will be hosing it down tomorrow!

Motors TV was on tonight at 9pm with quite a bit of Alfasud footage from Brands Hatch.

Hi Guys,
Very wet race today. We didn't do as well against the faster cars as we thought but happy with the result. All in one piece.
Malcolm got max points with a First for class D.

Well done guys.
Do you think your gearbox will hold out for the season Simon?
Good result Malcolm.
I hope to get to Silverstone.

Hi Keith,

I am hoping the gearbox will hold out. You have to hold it in third and use one hand on the wheel at the minute which can be a bit of a challenge but is ok.
Finding fifth seems better if you shift early and use a very limited amount of right pressure as you push the gear lever forward.
When you cannot find it you lose 2 to 3 seconds of drive so I am trying to avoid that. You will see in the video when I post it tomorrow.

Anyway, the car is otherwise going brilliantly. I am sure I can do well enough for the last two races at Silverstone.

All the best,
Simon

Hello All
Simon has summed up Thruxton well. Quite a good circuit in the dry but I must admit I didn't warm to it today in the wet. The self preservation chip kicks in around the back when flat out in fifth and so much spray you are looking for red lights rather than cars.

I have one video uploaded to youtube, the Saturday dry race. Apologies for the sound, camera and case rattling I think. Will take the sound off the front camera for Silverstone.

https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=ctx8ZxoetVI

I do have some rear view footage from the wet race which I will share with you via dropbox once uploaded as it has a 2.5 litre GTV hunting me down on wet weather tyres towards the end of the race. Had to get the elbows out!

All the best,
Malcolm

Here is rear view footage of the GTV. Sorry no sound.
The GTV comes into shot around 8m 40s behind the two Jags.
XJS has single headlight, XJ12 behind me.
At 10m 50s the GTV gets past the XJ12 and then starts to chase me down.

Hi Guys,

Here is the dry race on Saturday at Thruxton:

https://youtu.be/Aqyerw-prIU

My competition is Tony Crates in the MK2 Lotus Cortina. He got a great start only to have to brake hard to avoid the BMW CSL which stuffed his race.

Cheers guys, that wet race was a shocker!!
You both can really make up time through those three bends just before the start / finish straight.
Malcolm, you had great pace in the wet, but that bloody Mini is quick.
Simon, love your duelling with the purple cat.
It does look a long track and quick.
Cheers

They have got some great shots there. I see Malcolm got a bit of air in the dry (68) .
Kev and Rob should like the flaming Imp (194) and I do like the purple XJS "drifting" in the wet.
They also got a good one of you both with the Scimitar.

Hi Keith,

That is the Suds/Scimitar/Sud sandwich. Did you see the shot of Malcolm up the chuff of the red Capri in the Chicane? This is where he got past him and although the Capri had a lot more speed after Church, he was done for.

Simon

Thought I should put the video in the right folder.

Here you go. A good battle with a red 3 litre Capri, an orange 2 litre Escort and at the end the red Firenza that swiped me at Village. Determined he wasn't going to get the chequered flag before me!

It’s not official but we are expecting confirmation of an Alfasud one and two in group D (1300-1600cc).

Congratulations to Simon winning the class D championship in his Trofeo!!

Another enjoyable day at Silverstone International with the CTCRC pre'83's.
All cars safely back home.

I will post my race from today up in the morning but be warned, it is 17 minutes of a back end of an orange mk1 Escort 2 litre. I just did not have the ability today to get past him. Another day perhaps.
