Hi Guys,

My video from the first race on Saturday:

Sorry about the swearing after the throttle cable had gone. As I turned into the pit garage I could see the chequered flag being waved.

Hi Guys,

My second video from Sunday. The camera got knocked about a bit so you will need to tilt your head half way through. My son can fix it with his pro video editing but he is busy this week.
Driving is rather coarse but I had a lot of fun. Must learn more mechanical sympathy - sorry Tom
I dont normally drive one handed but adopted this when the gear lever wouldn't stay in third. Also, in the race the day before I got a 2-3 second jam when trying for fifth so I resolved not to even try to use fifth in this race - as you will see. Just kept an eye on max revs down the back straight even though the rev limiter is properly set and functioning.
Probably my last ever race in the Trofeo. Loved it. What a car.

All the best,
Simon

Agreed!

But that's not to snub or ignore the fact that You brought this fabulous car to the uk, breathed new life and purpose into it, and properly upset the apple cart in the ctcrc, along with your good fellows effecting an Alfasud revolt good and proper,

Marvellous work Simon! :P

Thats a lot to celebrate in my book, so whilst this chapter may be drawing to a close, it was a bloody good one,

And the next one will have us all equally hot under the collar I'm sure! :D

Hi Guys,

Loved my 1.2ti Sud when I was 17 and I think rose tinted glasses played a part in buying Suds later in life. I have to say that when I first raced the Trofeo at Castle Comb, I was disappointed. Where was the great handling? where was the great performance? It wasn't the cars fault. I was new to racing, the shockers were leaking oil and I was revving the car to just 7000rpm. The previous owner was telling me - you have to rev it but I wasn't listening. I met Ted for the first time at Brands Hatch when racing the red Sprint. He introduced me to the Classic Alfa Forum and to Tom. The forum members have provided great advice, inspiration, tips, technical advice, emergency spares, trackside support etc etc. Tom is a Sud wizard and transformed the handling of the Trofeo. Fluke? oh no. When the Trofeo came back going round corners on rails, Malcolms SC came under the spotlight. Malcolm wanted the same. The SC was sent up to Tom and sure enough it too was transformed. At Silverstone International, the SC was 3 seconds a lap faster with Toms setup.
So Forum Members and Tom have fast tracked the Trofeo and SC to Championship winning cars and its all Teds fault.
Racing Suds makes you really appreciate what brilliant cars they are. Its been a blast with the Trofeo but I know it will go on to be raced at a whole different level and I am going to enjoy seeing it demonstrate its true potential.
Thanks guys, for everything you have done.

I know my next car is German but can I stay - love the forum.

Brgds,
Simon

Yeh !!
You still need to keep us up to date with the racing Simon.
This great forum is a community of friends and enthusiasts who have a common interest.
Looking forward to next year to see what the grid looks like.
As Shrew pointed out, team Jeffs (+ Duncan) sure mixed up the grids over the last few years , raising the little Alfa's profile, and as you know, I enjoy watching all your in car , close racing clips.
We also benefit from your technical in put :D

Yes, as some of you already know I have agreed to buy the Trofeo from Simon. Why buy another racing Sud when I already have one? The answer is simple: It is, as you all know, gorgeous and also more eligible for some championships which the green car just isn't eligible for. I want to race a saloon car and just have some fun and plan to race it when I can along with a few Formula Ford races when time allows.

I'm really looking forward to getting to grips with it and having a go in the CTCRC championship and possibly, still investigating this one, the Peter Auto pre 1982 HTC Championship which attracts enormous grids of pre- Group A touring cars from all around Europe. There is a class structure with an up to 1300cc class which will make it fun otherwise we'll be totally outgunned by Cologne Capris and Batmobile CSL BMW's, etc! I have been speaking with Tom about some more developments and will share them with everyone when we know exactly what course we'll be taking.

I will keep the forum updated with developments and events. Please do come along and I hope that the little car's story will continue to grow.

Simon has done a fantastic job with the car both technically with Tom and also on track. Winning the class this year was a great achievement (and well deserved) and I hope that I can add to the successes in coming years.

Who'd have thought that in September 2014 after I'd just finished a Formula Ford race at Brands and thinking I'd have a chat with the blokes 'over there' racing some Alfasuds would lead all the way to where we are now?

Cheers, Ted

Simon, you will not find better than BLS! Superb work every time!

Your Sud looks superb - I would love to unearth a genuine Trofeo car. Along with a series 1 Ti, etc, etc.......

Hi Liam
Maybe you have checked already but just looking at your pics your harnesses look close to the 45 degree limit when wearing a head restraint.
Page 189 of the 2017 MSA 'bluebook' has a diagram.
Just worth a check because my harnesses were found to be 47 degrees last year and I had to put another bar in to bring them up into the 20 degree window.

All the best,
Malcolm

* All the extra weight of the additional bar was the only reason I couldn't catch Ted at the Festival Italia! ;)

Hi Malcolm,

Thanks for the advice, hopefully it will be ok over the back bar,
couple of other issues to sort to met the regs, split rims not allowed
and original dashboard, have a dashboard to collect from justsuds and
a set of period momo lightweight rims which Shrew nicely refurbished a while
back,

Liam

Hi Guys,

This one tells a story. The Orange Escort is at least 180bhp and only just beat Malcolm in both races:

Hi Simon, decent coverage of the second race - I'm glad they caught your in-car 'round the outside' moves at Village - plus your 2 for the price of 1 re-shuffling of the Rover and Lotus Cortina :-)
