Alfasud racecar build

Post by garygecko »

As promised here is the thread for my Alfasud race car build. After much searching I found a 1974 1200ti in Sydney. The guy who had it is an enthusiast and had good intentions for it but had found a better one and this one was left standing in his garden where bits were slowly disappearing off it. I bought it without seeing it, but from the photos it looked fairly solid and was assured that it was. A deal was done for 750 quid and I shipped the car to Dave at Brunswick. Believe it or not this worked out cost effective due to the price and scarcity of early suds in the UK and the fact that I shouldn't have to pay import duty on the way back down under. Plus the cars over here don't rot quite as fast as they do in the UK. I plan to build it for a series over here that basically runs similar rules to the old AROC class C rules. So heavily modified but keeping glass and steel panels. The plan is to fit a full race 16v. Dave promises to send photos of the build which I will post here.

Looking forward to seeing it Gary, it will be quick with the engine and box you have planned.

Dave got someone else to strip and weld it. He said it was weird as it was solid in all the usual rust spots but the bulk head looked like it had been raised from the Titanic.

bet the drain holes at the bottom had become blocked, then water would have kept things nicely damp with dead leaves and crud.

Do you mind me asking if it was expensive?
Did it take long to install?

Lovely job. The tubes through the bulkhead got me scratching my head. I have not seen those before. It seems they effectively put the front struts under the corners of the roll cage?

I have a Trofeo kit but I don't think it will be legal for the series I am going to run in.

Basically stiffness and safety.

"Allows the front suspension loads to be fed into the whole cage structure; provides protection for occupant's feet. It also improves side impact protection and increases the load capacity of the 'A' pillars/lateral hoops."

Any chance of an underbonnet pic so we can see how the cage connects onto the strut tops?

very impressive. Who's cage is it?
