Do show us pictures of the Moggy when he puts it back together as that colour should look very good on it.

Well done for painting it for him.

It's not that dissimilar to the colour on the Y10 we thought, be nice to see him out in it. 8-)

He's a great lad, has some great tips and advice so don't mind helping out where I can.

That looks fantastic!
Proportions are really nice, if indeed it has the 'grale running gear then it'd be monstrous fun 8-)

Much, much better than that new rendition "futurista" that's being banded about for about £270k build cost, plus your donor 16V integrale to create a 3 door car....which looks really poorly thought out.

A 3 door car needs the door to be longer than the remaining rear quarter to look even remotely in proportion, this doesn't. Apparently they lengthened the wheelbase by 20mm....guess that's just moving the hubs back and shaping the arches, nothing to do with mounting points. Like it needs to look longer in the rear quarters!
They do some bespoke suspension upgrades and engine mods, but I'd rather do those upgrades to a standard shell and leave the doors available to use thank you very much, and save about £1/4M into the bargain!

Not a hint of compromise anywhere - even the exhaust tips are staggered to keep each pipe length equal. Amazing... and a great colour too

Rob has been busy over the winter on his Imp, engine and gearbox have been out for some modifications mostly to the gearbox ventilation system to prevent pressurisation.
Whilst he was at it he's fitted a stainless tubular exhaust system and twin SU carbs.
He's also finally come up with a way to fit the 13x7 wheels to the front too this afternoon with some coilover suspension legs on the front, he can't use full lock as it scrapes but he's happy!
I've of course now got 2 more wheels to paint...

Rob has been pressing on with the Imp, he's adapted an inlet manifold that was for Stromberg carbs to use twin SU's.
He's made up all the linkages and heat shields as he went along, made a decent job of it. Still got the K&N filters to go on.

He's now got the stainless tubular exhaust on with a nice rolled tip.

Oil cooler on now so with the polished bits and wiring tidied up over the Winter it's looking a lot better in the engine bay.

Yes, he's been on at me all Winter to cut some louvres in the boot lid mate, not something I've attempted before so wasn't that keen.
So he ordered a fibre glass one with all the cooling slots in it!
Just needs a bit of fettling for latches etc then of course painting...

Actually managed to have a look at the Y10 this afternoon.
It's had a fair old oil leak since I got it but I've not used it so no big deal, after a couple of minutes running the oil burns on the exhaust.
Was clearly coming from high up on the engine as the head and block were being washed clean, had my fingers crossed it wasn't the camshaft seal and just the cam cover gasket.
Also hoped it wasn't the steel sump as these can get rotten given the age, although being soaked in oil has helped!

On taking the cambelt cover off though the seal looked OK, no oil on the inside of the pulley.

Camshaft cover gasket removed and the culprit was obvious!

IMG_20190527_144306.jpg

Gasket looked like it was a multi layer one with one layer being well out of line, no idea how long it'd been like that but I'd guess a while.

Just need to pressure wash it all down now and hope that it was a simple fix..

Got a cambelt to change on it, plus a very small bit of welding on the floor to sill then it will too be ready for an MoT...soon have a choice of Lancia to use 8-)

No, not the 1 litre fire engine, it's the 1301cc engine.

Sump appears fine at least, I hope!

Saw a Super Imp at a show this w/end converted to Imp Sport exhaust and twin Strom's - the oil cooler does look a bit delicate with exposed fins. He was taking no chances tho' a 5Ltr bottle of coolant fits nicely in the n/s rear wing.

Yes, I know when he got the oil cooler most of the fins were bent, he spent ages straightening them all out!

Think a supply of fresh water is standard Imp fare mate :D

He took it to the local Carrington Steam Rally this weekend, seemed well received from the general public.
Surprised to see some MG TF's in the classics though?! Nothing against them, but an 04 plate a "classic"?
Rob tells me a lot of classic car clubs allow anything 15 years old now to get members...
Wish we'd have known before, went in the Mrs Fiesta which being an '03 we could have got in for free and parked amongst the classics!

Y10 almost ready for an MoT now, gone over all the brakes and suspension, fixed a few jobs, new side repeaters fitted, bit of welding to the floor/sill area. Even fixed the oil leak and fitted a new cambelt.

Pressure washed the engine bay down today, just needs a good clean inside and out.

The passenger side gained a scrape or two on the door and rear quarter from being extricated and transported so as I found an aerosol of basecoat that I had from a Prisma I got off Jim years back I thought I may as well tidy it up!

Good finish from 10yards at least :D

I'll get it tested soon, then see about using it.

Rob's got the Imp shined up for a classic car show weekend, tomorrow he's at Anderby Creek on the Lincs Coast then Sunday at the Heckington show.
Probably go over to Heckington myself on Sunday

He's got the new front wheels on now with the deep dish same as the rears, that's 7x13's now instead of 4.5x12! But still lower than standard
