Yes, it's come out pretty good guys, mostly now through Rob's input. Pleased that he's carried on with it and not got fed up with the lack of creature comforts.

British weather though, don't you just love it
He's back home now having just managed to drag the car out of the show field which is like a mud bath, after us having a week or more of record braking temperatures!

Mud up inside the arches and everywhere, classic car display cancelled, lots of show activities not going on, if not the whole show. Got to feel sorry for the organising team after all the good weather, 2 day show and the first mornings rain ruins things.

Know what you mean Kev. I was due at a show on the south coast yesterday but didn't attend because it grizzled all day.

Rob bought a fibre glass engine lid a while back, for the sport model he says, has more cooling slits in it so the oil cooler gets fresh air to it.

He's now fitted it with square number plate on brackets he's fabricated.

With the integrale now done and Robs' Imp done some time ago and my self imposed couple of months off from projects I'm recharged and ready to get stuck back into things.

I brought the 2000 sedan out from the workshop corner to spend the winter welding it up, but it turned out to be a bit worse than I thought. I couldn't face spending the next winter welding and painting it as it isn't one car that I'd be keeping.
Happy to say my friend Ben is taking the car on so hopefully it will survive on.

With that project canned I moved one up the list that has been with me for a while, Tims' Sud.
I'm sure a thread will be something to keep you all amused over the winter.

It looks mean just sat there half stripped..

Look forward to Kev working his magic on it. The plan is to make it a s1 looky likey (note to self, remind Kev to weld up the rear fog light holes), and refit the cage. I’ve got s1 wings , rear spoiler and a nos front spoiler for it. Then after that I’ve got no idea what I’ll do with it.

I can’t quite remember when I bought it, I think about 2013, might have been 2012. Long story short, I bought my old white racer back from John at justsuds, decided the shell needed too much work, bought this one from John to build up from the white racer, then bought the sprint and both suds sat in storage.

Dave then bought the old white shell and rescued it (kudos to Dave !), and this one went over to Kev.

I don’t have any history, it was a racer and had an ugly cage in it, but I don’t know who raced it. All of the suspension components were drilled to loose wight, more fresh air than metal, even the brake drums are drilled to death to lighten them.

It’s had a lot of work done, but then sat and started to rust in places hence Kevs skills needed. It started life as a red 1983 1.5 SC.

I fancied full trofeo, but it would be a shame to cut off the new arches so it will stay standard. :D

As work up at the unit is on hold at the moment with the virus situation I've got a few jobs lined up at home, mostly on the Y10.

Water had been getting into the drivers footwell, windscreen has been replaced and the wrong seal fitted so some silicon sealant in the gaps will suffice for now. I have a correct seal so when the repairs to the scuttle get done I can sort it out properly.

The result though was rust under the battery tray and the inevitable hole, the source of my watery footwell.

Thankfully the whole tray wasn't rotten through, just the corner section.

Welded up and the battery hold down bolt reinstated.

I used some jenolite on the surface rust which seems to be good at returning the metal to a solid shiny surface.

Etch primed a few decent layers then seam sealed it with an extra layer on the raised sections where the plastic battery tray will sit.
Aerosol basecoat and lacquer has tidied it up enough but more importantly it's watertight 8-)

I've already done a few jobs on it, cambelt and water pump for safety sake.
Fixed the central locking.
Fixed the drivers electric window regulator.
Fitted new rear hatch struts.
Oil change, usual stuff.

Got the outer sills to replace which I'll be tackling soon then the brakes to overhaul then I'll be using it for a while before it gets a full respray.

With the virus hold ups the Y10 will get attention I didn't think I'd have time for!

Dunno about that mate, still haven't learnt that knotted wheels and flesh isn't a fair fight  snagged on my glove and had a dig in my wrist.

Trouble is being on the wrist the scab keeps splitting every time you move your hand, bit messy now but only bit of skin. Nothing too deep.

with latex gloves on for work it only takes a few minutes for it to turn to mush so seems to be getting a flush out :D

i did immediately think how stupid it was as soon as I did it, how simple and quick it turns to turd like it did with shrew, it'll be fine in a week or so, keep it clean and wash it regularly that's the ticket

Just to be sure to confuse myself even further, now the 145 is back together and I've abandoned welding the Y10 sills at home I went to the unit this afternoon and fetched this...
IMG_20200517_195408.jpg

It's the 1.8 flat 4 engine for the Flavia coupe. At least I hope its mostly there, albeit some glaring omissions..

I'll dig into all the boxes and see what's what.

I also have another complete engine sat in the car, literally sat in the engine bay so was going to lift that out and strip it down but this one in bits looks a challenge..

Block is alloy with wet liners, casings separate down the centre a bit like a Subaru does so way different than the Sud block.
Is a strange valve arrangement too, timing chain in the nose end drives a pair of cams, one for each bank. Not overhead cams, set in the block with pushrods through to the heads.. One cam is missing from the half block nearest side..

Valve rockers are a neat little design, nice and easy to adjust..
IMG_20200517_201242.jpg
The valves look huge for standard sizes, inlets appear to be 45mm with 38mm exhaust.

I have 4 heads with this lot so should be able to get something..

Loads of bits that I didn't strip.. Should be fun! At least I've a factory copied workshop manual so not totally in the dark..

Both cranks look a bit worse for wear though, that could be an issue. Will have to get those looked at first to see if at least one is useable..
