I'm more than just a car nerd!
Just to prove that i do have other interests on occasion, and that i'm not just a raving alfa fanatic, i thought i'd share some of my other hobbies.
I think its safe to assume that you guys also know my fetish for wheels, particularly quality retro oldskool stuff,
but heres proof that i can be distracted from old Alfa's and Compomotives from time to time.
My new Van Wheels Project!
Now firstly i should explain a little bit first. As Kev will know, one of the crazes for the VeeDub lads is using Porsche wheels and parts, in an effort to Pimp their Poop, and i love a wind up me (Never!) I thought "i'll show em!"
My van, a Vauxhall Movano, is essentially a re-badged Renault Master, frances finest, so with german porsche wheels, is gonna be a bit of a pig in a poke, but with a stud pattern of 5 x 130, and a centre bore of 89.1 mm, aftermarket alloys for a 3.5 ton van, is always going to be a challenge, hence why you don't see many/any Masters or Movano's wearing shiney shoes!
So introducing phase one of Windub (Wind Up, Dub! get it!)
a set of 18" Porsche Cayenne Alloys, and at this point wearing 245/45/18 tyres.
the tyres actually need to be a little taller profile to keep the rolling radius right, but the effect was getting there.
i don't really love the way these looked if i'm honest, but was willing to run with it for the time being, and i'd perhaps fall for them a little more once the van gets tidied this year with some paintwork, which i'm hoping will reflect the website mainly

Re: I'm more than just a car nerd!
trouble is, whilst i was searching for the neccessary hardware regarding adpaters/spacers etc i came across a Plan B
So here is version 2 of VauxDub!
now these bad boys are Porsche Cayenne Turbo again, only now in 19", but a little wide whilst wearing 275/45/19 rubber!
They will sit in a little more once i sort the offset out by getting the centre bore right to sit back on the hub properly, but only by about 12mm,
So, in true dub fashion shall i fit some stretched tyres, thoughts on something like a 165/90/19 on a 9j wheel, yeah?
only kidding of course, but hey, what about a Trofeo Arched Van?
now were talking eh!

Nutter!
But I do like seeing vans with nice alloys and wider the better! If it wasn't a work horse I'd say lower it
Paint job and graphs I'm guessing ?
Sounds interesting.never seen a pink van before

Oh God! not the pink thing again! ha ha!
yeah i'm thinking the van should go italian Tri-Colore, red one side, green the other, white in the middle.
saves having to match anything too, bonus!
and then some CAF graphics etc, tasteful of course,
and no pink!

Oh FFS !
Right... because you are obviously suffering from mental disorder, here's what you can do:
a - go back to Alfa related subjects
b - go finish your 33
c - go finish your Sud
d - stop pi$$ing about with the Merkel Wagon Van - The MerkelDub
If you want to stand out, just write "FREE SEX" on the side of your van.
That would get you A LOT of attention !
...maybe not the desired attention, but nevertheless ... A LOT !!!

Re: I'm more than just a car nerd!
Hmmmm, Phil,
you know that your car and the wheels are older than me don't you?
Does your car share the same pcd as triumph, 4 x 3.75" (95.25mm) or 4 x 4" (101.6mm), and i think there may be a clue in that?
if i could see the spokes a little closer on the first silver set, and i could work out if they had an inlay to them, i would say KN Gemini's? but i think you may have added a none original centre cap?
the second set i'm pretty sure are Cosmics, a'la the old GT6 style.
How did i do?

No prize for Kev I'm afraid.
And half a point for Shrew. The polished alloys on the dark blue Sprite are Falcon 5 1/2" x 13 with 4" PCD and the rears also drilled for Ford PCD (4 1/4"?)- bought in 1985.
On the Green Sprite .....correct in saying Cosmic but full point for Cosmic Mk 1 4 1/2" x 13, which I bought in 1970 when alloy wheels were only just becoming available.
It is scary to think that my wheels are older than Shrew!

Re: I'm more than just a car nerd!
I enjoyed that Phil, and considering i wasn't born till 71, not bad for a youngun i reckon! ha ha!
do you have a closer picture of the Falcons Phil?
I knew some of the pcd's would be awkward, everyone was radically different as they are now, but certain brands of wheel seemed bias towards certain manufacturers patterns, and cross fitting was barely done back then eh,
you must have been one of the "wild ones" Phil!

should be some merchandise in the very near future tony, something we had discussed last year in the initial stages but we wanted to walk before running. seems the forum has found its' feet now so we'll try a sprint very soon
hope to have an announcement within a few weeks, takes a little time with us doing things on a part time/budget basis but we have some great ideas.
just need to finalize designs etc..

Re: I'm more than just a car nerd!
hi keith
well, not quite as easy as you might think, unless its the photo throwing me off.
my first thoughts are vauxhall, such as the last of the mk1 astras and early nova's, which would have been 4x100pcd,
is that why there are just two studs in there on the picture whilst you set up wobble bolts perhaps?
or, i may have just over complicated the whole thing! ha ha!
anyhow, they look great!

Hi Shrew,
Yes, you over complicated it.
They are Cosmic alloys. I still have the sticker off the inside saying fitment for Fiat 850, a Simca model and Alfasud. 4x 98 pcd
Inside was the original owners name written to reserve them as they were an aftermarket option. That is why, although not original, I kept them with the car.
I have some steels but I think these have been with her for almost all of her life.
The car was bought new in Grimsby, I have the original tax disc holder with the dealer name on it, they were also Simca dealers. That is probably why these wheels were available as an option.
Keith.

Hi,
Think these were optional fitment off one of the rear engined Simca Abarth 1000 / 1200 coupe's, they look great on the car and as you say they are part of the history of the car so good to see them still with it
