Trim looks good Kev, are the wheels originally off a 147 ?
I had a phase 2 in "grandad red"
Personally I like Proteo met. :)

After having the Clio 172 track car off Tim for several years now and never using it due to a lot of factors, lack of a towcar and trailer, not being able to get an mot on it due to a few changes made to it, it has come to the realisation that I needed to do something.
Either sell it or bite the bullet and sort out a towbar etc.
A friend has been trying to buy it off me for some time but I have resisted.
Then he went and bought a road going one to strip down and use, sending me a couple of pics first to see if a deal could be done, knowing that I would be against seeing a decent looking car being taken off the road!
So we have come to a good deal all round. He gets the track ready Clio so he can do the track days and I get a tidy, tested 172 for road use and I can also use on track being able to drive there.
We did the swap this afternoon.
Needs a few jobs doing but I really do like it. Like a lighter, quicker version of the 145 QV.
We're both booked into Cadwell on Thursday 31st, so at least I'll get to have a passenger ride in the track ready one! And take this road one for a few laps too.

Oh, and I have already swapped the silly tiny steering wheel for the original!

Well, in the spirit of not buying anymore projects until I finish the Dedra, GTV and eventually the Flavia..... My new purchase!
At least it was one out one in, the Clio has now gone to my lad Rob, that's him smiling at what a fool I am to let myself in for some more pain!

Big thank you to Richard for travelling down to help with the move, very much appreciated mate.

Definitely a Lancia Flaminia - I was only familiar with the Touring Superleggera bodied coupes (the ones with the Dairylea triangle rear lights) and Zagato coupes until I saw one of these at Goodwood a few years back. I guess the PF stands for Pininfarina and explains why it looks like a BMC Oxford/Cambridge (also styled by Farina).

Does it have a V6 like the Touring coupes Kev? If so I guess it is related to the unit in the Aurelia?

In the original Italian Job movie, a Touring body convertible stands in for Charlie Croker's Aston, when the Mafia bulldoze it over the cliff.

There was a big clue in my list of cars in my signature below!
The V6 was a development on the Aurelia deisgn still being a 60deg angle, so a proper V design unlike the later Fulvia narrow angle design.
It did get more up to date front suspension over the Aurelias sliding pillar design which dated back to the Lambda days, double wishbone and telescopic dampers. Rear transaxle, clutch at rear so propshaft runs at engine speed.
This is what is know as a 3B car, so has a single Solex carb but it has 3 venturi so is a triple carb in essence. Later cars, especially in 2.8 capacity (this is a 2.5) had triple Webber carbs, so like the Sud it had a venturi for each cylinder.
This car is rated to around 131bhp I gather, not bad for 1963. The 3C triple Webber cars were around 160.
Dunlop disc brakes all round, inboard at the rear with seperate handbrake calipers at the rear too. Quite an over-engineered design, regarded within the club as the last true Lancia. Seems nothing was designed at a proce, even stuff like the bonnet catches are a work of art.

As for the future of the car, I'm still deciding. The car obviously needs a fair degree of welding to the arches, sills etc. Underside isn't too bad, around the front is very frilly.
Engine is currently seized which is a concern, parts are available to rebuild it but being an alloy block steel liner engine the potential for it to get expensive is glaringly obvious, if it needed liners and pistons then the parts needed with shells and gaskets would amount to over £4k, and that's assuming the block and heads are salvageable!

The car belonged to Tony Young. He was the guy who sold me my integrale. Sadly he passed away last year and the family asked if I could help save the car, something Tony would have wanted. It was parked in the garage in 1980 and sat there since, until last Sunday! As fantastic a thing it would be to restore and have both of Tonys' pride and joy cars, I have to have a bit of caution. Heart can't rule the head too much, I've not the energy and enthusiasm I once had, and there's still the Flavia coupe to do.

In the coming weeks I'll try and make the choice over what to do, a buyer willing to restore it would be handy, it is worth more in parts than as a whole, but scrapping it would be a real shame. So no harm in sheeting it over for a while.

Wow - that is such a cool specification for what can easily be mistaken for a 1.5 litre Austin Westminster

...But I can understand your concerns regarding the engine and the bodywork. Let's hope the engine won't turn over because the bores have been filled with Diesel prior to going into storage...

I never did do a build thread on the Dedra did I, guilt at it not being an Alfa on an Alfa forum.
Anyway, aside from still waiting for the seats to come back from the trimmer it's about done.
Appearances as always were way better than they appeared.
Not as big a job as the Y10 was but the rear end needed a lot of reconstruction with the usual rot between the chassis rails and boot floor to the inner arches, same issues as the 155 suffers with.

Last year the car sat inside the unit waiting for various tasks to be done that were out of my control, like a 3 month wait for a new windscreen.
Other tasks took over my spare time like the GTV so it gradually got more and more of the neglected appearance. Not being sheeted over meant it just got worse, and not being completed enough to allow it to be washed just made things worse.

Forward to now and I finally have a compete car. This afternoon I gave it a much needed wash, a polish up will wait until its warmer and drier.

Pink shots as always due to the mobile phone camera, I assure you it's a very bright red!

Whilst I'm waiting for the GTV parts to come back from the powder coaters I've decided to have a look at the Flaminia engine, or more accurately see why it's seized..

Made a start on it this afternoon, gotta get it over the pit on Saturday to detach the prop and a few bits.
IMG_20230126_171131.jpg
Has a very interesting carb on the V6 that I've not seen before. A triple throat Solex all in one casting, with just 2 acceleration pumps so must have just two float chambers, I'm guessing.

In typical Lancia fashion, and why they continued to go bust, the throttle cable is way over engineered. Guessing due to the rhd set up?
Cable runs around a pulley then back to the linkage whereas on a lhd car it'd be a direct line, why they didn't just use a longer cable and loop around I don't know.

IMG_20230126_165534.jpg
Had an elaborate linkage on the drivers side with an alloy mount for the cable to start at, all rather over the top I'd say, but lovely nonetheless.

 I know, many a car has come and gone Tim! :D
The MR2 got sold to a local guy in Caistor, Dad and lad were planning a restoration on it, haven't heard from them since despite asking to be kept in the loop, although they were going to park it up for a while before starting.

As for the faded red GTV, I can't actually recall why I sold it, probably distracted by the next project..
Sold it to a fella from Leicester way via eBay.

Funnily enough it looks like he's now moving it on...

 love the throttle set up Kev, talk about around the houses.
Didn't realise it had a single, triple choke carb on it, a bit like the Lambo Miura X4. The one we have at work has three twin chokes i think.
Hope she frees up for you.

Engine now out of the Flaminia on my engine stand, a few quick adapter brackets made out of leftover box section that had served as Sud frame cover back home then Y10 bracing, recycling at its best! :D

I'll make a start on it once the GTV is finished or if parts for it stall.
Some lovely engineering in that V6 8-)

Also this week I finally got the retrimmed Dedra seats back, about 18 months after sending them in! They needed doing though, used replacement sets are as hard as Sud ones to find.
IMG_20210411_134419.jpg
Pretty grotty! :o

But the new ones are great. Superb quality with the stitching all pattern having care to line up nicely, details I wouldn't have thought of or even half a hope of achieving!
All the material is new, 2 types of grey alcantara and the central pattern. Even all 4 headrests were redone.

Wow - not seen a PRO1 for a while
Remember using that in my Alfa/Fiat dealer days
From what I remember it was just a big breakout box for checking the wiring instead of probing the pins at the ecu connector
Hope it helps with your diagnosis

I hope it helps me find the issue too :D
Instruction literature I bought a bit back for checking the ABS system in the hope it would help with fault finding just pointed towards using this machine and going through a series of checks in a mthodical manner, rather than the modern way of plugging in and waiting for fault codes. Very early days in electronic control systems.
It'll be interesting to see how user friendly, and succesful it is! :geek:
