Alfasixnut wrote:My next job will be to get the radiator repaired as it leaks significantly. I think most of these problems are my own fault. With so much hastle over cooling I had just been topping up with water. When I stored the car in the hanger over the winter I didn't think it would get too cold and most of the water had drained out, but I suspect it did freeze where there was trapped water - leading to more problems this year....Dohhh
Just to update this saga - after failing to get the car to MITCAR 2015 I finally got round to taking the radiator out. from the back it didn't look too bad apart from the lower corner -

However from the front it was a LOT worse - and when I put water in ......it came out very quickly!!

So as this was the original 164 rad I cannot complain and will either get it repaired or replaced.

Impressive project, is it pretty quick off the mark?

Thanks - although I had the 6C at a Santa Pod RWYB I didn't run it up the track to get a quarter mile time - but it certainly feels quick........ ;)

Wow, that's one seriously corroded radiator. Hopefully a reconditioned/repaired one should sort all of your cooling problems.

Magazine shots look fantastic by the way 8-)

Thanks for the comments.
The renovated radiator looks a lot better!

- and doesn't leak........but needs a slight alteration to the mounting points before final fitting.

Woohoo! The 6C has passed its MoT! So the plan is to get it out and about next year. However on the way back from the garage the header plastic bottle seems to have cracked underneath as water comes out when under pressure.......

Good news , apart from the bottle . But at least an easy fix ;)

I thought the expansion bottle had a leak so I sourced a replacement (many thanks to CAF and Junior on here!) and finally got round to swopping them yesterday. The old one came off easily but I couldn't see a crack or split anywhere????
When it was filled with water there was no leak??
However when I pressure tested it (blowing hard with all outlets blocked!) there was a leak - somewhere........
Finally I found it at the bottom of one of the strengthening? internal columns - dohhh.

I have started a new thread for the Sprint 6C (- the 24V of the title on here) and the 8V Sprint was sold in 2014 as we were due to move house and I have too many toys! So this particular thread will fade into the background.
