Re: Sticky valve
not really any quick solutions really mate is there, even if it got to the point where you thought it would be ok it only takes a moment when it's running for a disaster to happen.
worth just pulling the one head off rather than a full strip down/engine out job?

As said, the most desireable and profitable way is back to original, but if it's to be used as a daily then the 1.7 8V is a great unit and still retains all the original features.

Had planned on getting the engine off the stand today to fit the flywheel & new clutch then re-attach to the original gearbox..sounded simple enough. The gearbox had other ideas though, the clutch arm pivot was very stiff and the top bush seized to the fork so it was rotating in the gearbox rather t...

Western politics works on emotion and outburst not logic, science and long term planning. Hydrogen, probably fuel cell to power the shift to leccy motors. Oil is a global power economy, but yes China and India will Hoover it all up while we wear sack cloth and bare feet until it all rebalances. McD...

Interestingly only tonight I was reading an online article from the boss of Citroen who has declared the SUV sector to be dead, too big and heavy to be converted to EV use as they are, they'd need huge batteries to have any kind of range which would only add to the problem. The environmentalists are...

Same here, I bought new lower arms and sprayed them with 2 pack jet black. The finiash they come in rusts in no time!
I'll do the rear spring pans and upper arms in time but I want to make sure it's mobile and bedded in for SAD at Duxford so may leave that for now.

I never did do a build thread on the Dedra did I, guilt at it not being an Alfa on an Alfa forum. Anyway, aside from still waiting for the seats to come back from the trimmer it's about done. Appearances as always were way better than they appeared. Not as big a job as the Y10 was but the rear end n...

The bumper mounts were a bit rusty, thick enough for it to be no problem but scruffy. As I was going to be spraying some Lancia parts with satin black 2 pack then it seemed daft not to clean them and paint at the same time. Likewise the bottom of the support legs that the radiator mounting panel bol...

The car made it up to the unit as promised last month, all clean and shiny after a wash up there. IMG_20221217_163338.jpg Over the Christmas period I got some time to get the drivetrain out so all the CF2 parts could be removed from the spare engine and fitted back to the original, now rebuilt unit....

Quoted range for that car is 235 to 260 miles....but in the real world you need the heater on, the lights on, it rains so the wipers are needed. even charging your mobile phone whilst driving cuts into the range. And of course as you rightly say, when you get low on fuel you get to fill up in under ...

Agree fully Lou, I've just about had my fill of modern cars, or modern car designers. There's no need for such huge and heavy vehicels. I've just looked up the car on Parkers, seems it is indeed a portly thing, 2,520kg! Same as a decent sized Vivaro sized van, or to put it into perspective that's mo...

I've seen a good few cars with broken front springs, Fiesta and Citroen cars mostly, often the sharp broken end goes through the inner sidewall of the tyre for added effect! But this Peugeot 3008 this week was brought in as the Lady owner thought the car looked a bit lop sided and didn't seem to be ...

Pilkington are happy for me to collect, so I have ordered. No road trip to Milan, just Redditch in 8-12 weeks.

Get some decent packaging material sorted for the collection, old bed quilts, blankets, inflatable matress, anything like that so the ride home is safe!

For £90 delivery I'd be tempted to just collect it, assuming they will allow that?
At least you'd know it would be safe, and not get lost!

I paid the Denmark people using IBAN which is just like a Bank Transfer but done Internationally, I managed to do it online so it must be fairly manageable! If on entry to UK if the customs people get hold of it then you get an email from the customs outlining what you need to pay to get it released...

The official line is that anything over around £160 (inc P&P) should incue import duty costs, and gets impounded on entry in the country and you have to pay before your parcel arrives. When I was getting the seat material from Denmark for the Dedra both times the parcels were delayed, from point of ...

Sounds like a convoy, remember the other time Kev when you and Paul met up just off the A14. Maybe I could meet you there again? Does sound like a plan, Lou has already mentioned it. I asked Paul about it and he's keen, either in his 33 again or maybe a GTV Spider as he's been on about getting one..

Yep, scary to think what's driving around. It is a big thing too, back seats full of gear and the pick up section full of heavy tools. He'd taken about 3mm of material off the disc face by carrying on driving with the pads metal to metal which made enough clearance at the mount for the pad to slip through the much wider gap. Some years back, I bought a 33 to strip for parts. The owner had fitted a bike tyre valve to the reservoir cap. Get an assistant to use a bike pump to keep pressure whilst bleeding. Also don't forget the basics, check the tyre pressures. This cold snap makes the pressure drop in the same way as them getting hot makes them go up. Seen plenty this week with the warning lights on for that reason. Could easily be nearly 10 psi down on what they may have been set at in summer. The c...
