Re: New member

Hi, I'm a newbie too and spend a fair bit of time searching autoscout for 116 Giuliettas (my plan is to eventually convert one to RHD and stick a Busso in it), so a good choice for your search. I've heard some pretty unpleasant things about some South African imports (even if they've supposedly been...

Re: Quick question I think I already know the answer to

Right, 2nd hand oil pump and new cambelt on order, need to source a lot of gaskets and some new piston rings at the very least now... Cambelt tensioner rebuild kit arrived from @LooLooSud33Spider this morning (thanks for that) so I've got the potential to make some real movement on the engine, excep...

Re: A quick 'hi' and plans for the future

Now that would be an interesting thing to try :) It's just got a viscous centre diff on the manual box for the rear wheel drive so no reason why you couldn't take that off and effectively make it 2 wheel drive. Though there's not that much difference size-wise by the looks of it between a Subaru box...

Re: A quick 'hi' and plans for the future

Yes indeed, I'm quite looking forward to getting the welder out again for an Alfetta or Giulietta - Subarus don't have many rust issues and I had to farm out replacing the 156 GTA's sills and floorpan (both rusted through at 12 years old, so much for the improved rustproofing!) to a 3rd party becaus...

Re: Quick question I think I already know the answer to

Hi Marc . Sorry I haven’t got any pump bits. I Do have some exh manifolds which i think are 75 V6 . Have a look at the pic see if they’re any use to you. Lou 78EEB6AD-DD9B-40C0-AD03-7C4307E8CEEC.jpeg Oh well, it was worth a try :) Think I've managed to source a replacement oil pump anyway from a 11...

Re: A quick 'hi' and plans for the future

Maybe if you put a 4 cylinder Nord/Twin Spark engine in your Giulietta project, you could save yourself a lot of time/money/hassle etc? Possibly, but it's the Busso noise I'm really after - that's the bit I miss most about driving an Alfa. And I'm not fond of the handling of the front wheel drive B...

Yes please!!! :D

Don't suppose you've got an old Alfetta / 75 Busso oil pump (any condition will do, or just the housing) knocking around as well by any chance?

Re: A quick 'hi' and plans for the future

That should make a great donor for the build, even things like bulkhead bits for the steering column passage could be used to make life easier. At least it'll go on living in the transplant :D Indeed, should save me a fortune in time / money searching for random bits'n'bobs off Ebay :D But part of ...

Bet it didn't have the desiccated, moldy remains of a field mouse jammed underneath the inlet manifolds though :)

Re: A quick 'hi' and plans for the future

Think I might have a possible donor lined up for some of the RHD conversion stuff: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/4aoAAOSw0YlcAc-E/s-l1600.jpg No engine / gearbox and it's not been MOT'd for 9 years so I suspect it'll be way too far gone to rescue (if it is rescue-able, the v6 will be going in an Al...

Re: Quick question I think I already know the answer to

Will do :) I did a bit more dismantling this evening, got to say the 12v is one helluva lot better designed than the 3.2 24v in the 156 GTA - it literally flew apart! Think I might be needing a new water pump: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q90/923/FFFo1W.jpg Cam covers off: https://imagi...

Re: Quick question I think I already know the answer to

Just in case anyone's wondering what I'm babbling on about, this is the hybrid pump: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q90/921/2XNiHO.jpg I reckon oil would have either come up the pickup, gone straight out the hole and not touched the engine, or it would have drawn in air through the hole r...

Quick question I think I already know the answer to

I've recently acquired a 3.0 12v Busso for use in a future project, which has been partially converted from the transverse type used in the 164, to the inline type used in the 75, etc. Apparently it hasn't been run for years (the distributor wouldn't engage properly, for reasons which will become cl...

Re: Beta Coupe

Car and classic is good, I sold a W124 Mercedes through there about 3 years ago, but I have noticed you do get a lot of old chaps who phone up seemingly just for a nostalgic chat about cars advertised on there. Very nice, but not ideal if you're short on time. GLWTS, not that you'll need it, but if ...

Re: Beta Coupe

Makes sense, and if you add Gumtree to the mix, you'd get lots of shady 'Nigerian Princes' wanting you to turn up to a deserted port at midnight with it... I'm surprised nobody's biting your hand off for it tbh, the Beta was definitely an iconic car; I remember lusting after the HPE Volumex when I w...

Re: Beta Coupe

That's ridiculously cheap, even given the mileage and Volumex bits. I'd have it in a snap if I had a spare £3000; don't suppose you fancy a swap for a 14 year old Subaru do you? Seriously though, have you put it on the more mainstream sites like Autotrader, the dreaded Ebay, etc? It should mak...

Spotted on Ebay

Both look a bit of a mess, but the 75 shell may come in useful for panels or a reshell, and the gtv might be rescue-able with the help of a good bodyshop: LHD 75 shell: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-75-body-shell-Left-Hand-Drive/392259308659 2.0 GTV with front end damage: https://www.ebay.co...

Thanks all for the warm welcome, enthusiasm and offer of parts :) Might be a time before I have anything to show for my ambitions (I need to save up for the car plus transport first, thoroughly check the engine, recondition the box, etc) but good to know there's parts out there when I need them. @al...

A quick 'hi' and plans for the future

Not sure if this is the right place to post introductions, but I found this forum through a post on Alfaowner, and having seen the sort of content on here it seems a great place for me to pick up more info. I'm pretty short on money at the moment so it may take some time for me to do or post anythin...

Bit cheeky as a first post on here, but I could do with one of those.

I haven't posted enough to send you a PM about it though, so I guess if someone else snaps them up first that's fair enough :)
