Re: Spring Alfa day Duxford
Absolutely gutted that I will have to miss this event. Never been to Duxford before (the US aircraft hanger has been on my bucket list for years), and the opportunity to go to an Alfa event at the same time would have been the icing on the cake. Sadly the ongoing engine problem and a new suspension ...

Boxer inlet manifold studs
Hi everyone - can anyone confirm the dimensions of the longer of the three studs holding the inlet manifold onto the cylinder head? I need to replace one that is missing. The stud is around 60mm above the cylinder head, with maybe a further 10mm projecting into the cylinder head. There seems to be a...

Re: general chat thread
Like you Kev I can't see everyone switching to EV. You only have to look at the on-street parking situation in Portsmouth, where you are lucky to find a parking space 3 streets away from your house, to realise that EVs can never replace combustion engines. It would be bad enough even with designated...

Wow - that is such a cool specification for what can easily be mistaken for a 1.5 litre Austin Westminster  ...But I can understand your concerns regarding the engine and the bodywork. Let's hope the engine won't turn over because the bores have been filled with Diesel prior to going into stora...

Re: my new purchase
Definitely a Lancia Flaminia - I was only familiar with the Touring Superleggera bodied coupes (the ones with the Dairylea triangle rear lights) and Zagato coupes until I saw one of these at Goodwood a few years back. I guess the PF stands for Pininfarina and explains why it looks like a BMC Oxford/...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION
Isn't it strange how green varies so dramatically when photographed - I have never seen two pictures of my car the same shade, and for years I thought the Pininfarina P33 coupe was yellow because the green did not register on the 35mm film of the day. I didn't realise Alfa sold the Sprint in a solid...

Re: 8 bolt, 4.1 final drive
Hi Fruity - OK, I have checked my analysis and that shows that I assumed my old final drive was a 4.11, but it looks like that was based purely on deduction from the Haynes manual. I will have to inspect the gearbox itself to be certain. I don't want to get your hopes up, it could be a 3.889 :( Lauren

Re: 8 bolt, 4.1 final drive
Hi Fruity - yes, the 4.11 final drive was definitely fitted to other models, 1.2 Ti and 1.3 model Alfasuds, also 1.3 Alfa 33s I believe. I am trying to remember what final drive is fitted in my old Gold Cloverleaf gearbox. I asked Alex Jupe to rebuild my 1.5 Ti box but the speedo drive had corroded ...

Re: Brooklands Autumn Motorsport Day 2022
Thanks Keith - I spoke to several people at the event who had decided not to go to MITCAR due to it being cancelled twice previously (I wasn't even aware that it had been cancelled a second time), even though there were good reasons for each postponement. Perhaps 2023 will be better (I hope so, I mi...

Re: Return of Steve5M and the GTV6
That was going to be my point as well. Replacement LED or HID bulbs are not legal in the UK, but complete assemblies (lens/reflector) are. Unfortunately, although there are plenty of alternatives available for LHD/RH dip markets (mostly in the US), RHD/LH dip assemblies appear to be limited to 7" ci...

Brooklands Autumn Motorsport Day 2022
This was one of the last major automotive events on my calendar for this year, so I paid my £1.40 (Premium Event surcharge) and set off at around 8am on Sunday the 9th October. The forecast was promising, with lots of sunshine on offer, but just 4 miles into my journey a sudden temperature change mi...

Wish I'd taken a few more pics of it now, looked in great condition. From behind, with Robs' Imp in the foreground, the Clan looked tiny! That's because it IS tiny! I'll second #3 as an Esprit, likely an S1 due to apparent lack of interior ruching but difficult to tell from this angle... Also agree about the Jowett Jupiter (I did briefly wonder about the Javelin, but that has a full-width grille) Maser is a 1991 facelift model I think. No idea where the door ha...

For the second year in a row, the AROC National Alfa Day was held at the Bicester Heritage centre, and having missed the first visit to the site in 2019, and then again last year due to COVID concerns, this year was going to be different! The date for the event was Sunday 7th August and all tickets ...

Re: TI wheels
It's easy enough to work out: Wheels are 13" diameter, so I convert the tyre width (e.g. 165mm) to inches (divide by 25.4), multiply by 0.7 (70%) to get the sidewall height, multiply by two and add to the wheel diameter to get the circumference (in inches). Or you can convert the wheel diameter into...

Re: Alfasud Trofeo Sump
Hi Lauren. Dry sump would certainly add a fair bit of extra plumbing and for road use it’s just not really needed. I have one of the dealer team big wing baffled sump that I may use just because I can but for rod use it really is overkill I would say if your not running a cooler that would be worth...

Re: Alfasud Trofeo Sump
Have you considered a dry sump system? I wondered if any boxer race cars have ever had one fitted? I had - but I don't really need the extra clearance under the sump, as the driveshaft angle would be compromised if I dropped the engine and box down any further. Plus there is the expense of the dry ...

Hi guys - a suitably racy question from an unusual angle today :D I am about to embark on the final (maybe) big project on the Nova, replacing the standard 1.5 Ti engine with an Alfatune unit which I got from my good friend Graham some years ago. Graham is advising a full strip-down and rebuild befo...
