Re: Wet Feet

DSC_0870.jpg Well I was working on it during the summer and the area around the heater matrix is almost finished. I am concentrating on indoor jobs and my 'get it finished one day' Sprint Veloce during the bad weather ( as is its in the garage). Its certainly a difficult area to work on and you hav...

Wet Feet

If you find your feet are getting a bit wet in your 75 you will probably find the bulkhead looks something like this when you finally remove the dashboard.

Re: Its arrived! The 156,147,GT lounge!

Actually I am getting a bit tired of the smell of damp carpets, so some recommendations on good air fresheners would be useful. They also give you an indication of body roll, the ones that hang from the rear view mirror that is. Although I have heard that a dangling one can be an MOT failure! Just a...

Try Bob Wright who trades as alfapanels.com. He makes fibreglass copies.

Re: side engine mounting rubbers

They were not fitted to earlier cars ( as you may know ) and I am note sure when they started fitting them, I presume it was with the 1.5 engine. I fitted a 1.5 engine from an ARNA many years ago to my series one Sud without fitting the stabiliser bar and I have never had any problems.

Re: Restoration on 88 Sprint

I have read that the EU have plans to increase the methanol content of fuel to 10% which would cause problems for classics which have carbs. Looks like we may be leaving the EU soon but I am beginning to wonder if, when I get my car finished, I will be able to get fuel that it will run on ?

Re: Restoration on 88 Sprint

I have been working on my 'get it finished one day' 88 Sprint 1.7 off and on since before digital cameras were invented, well almost. And like you I did not take many photos. But I have just been stripping down the area I work on, well sort of. So the dash, suspension and engine are still attached a...

Re: 83 Sprint Speciale

Had this problem on the earth from the battery to the fire wall on my 'get it finished one day' Sprint. The earth had frayed so much inside the plastic sheath, that there were only a few strands left and it refused to start. It took me a week or two, in my spare time, to trace the problem.

Re: Sprint rear window winders

I thought mine were well beyond repair but I left them soaking in releasing fluid ( but I now think diesel would have been a cheaper alternative) and after a few months of poking and cleaning crap out of them, while I worked on the rest of the car, I was able to get them working again. I found that,...

Kev, you should publish an illustrated guide to restoration to help and inspire others. It might even make you some money or you could end up on the discovery channel !

I bought one when they first became available at a sensible price and before the pound dropped sharply after the Brexit vote. I can vouch for the quality if you can't find a cheaper replacement and its probably made of a better quality metal than the original.

Re: Sprint rear window mechanism

Both my rear winder mechanisms were solid with rust but it was all corrosion and crap that had been washed in by rain and rust from the buckets that the windows wind down into. I was going to throw them out but as I had plenty of other work to do on the car I cleaned them out and after soaking in re...

Re: Diagnosis help

My Sprint developed a bad earth from the battery while it was laid up (which it still is) and on closer inspection it was caused by the braided cable coming apart in the sheath so the problem was not obvious.

Re: 155 2 litre skinny

I have owned two 155 1.8 16v widetracks and loved them both. The only criticism I would make is that the ride was firm, which is OK, but a bit on the harsh side and the roads in my home town of Penarth are diabolical. The first 155 was a good few years ago now and so did not have any rot issues. I o...

Definitely bonkers. I was going to rebuild all the brake callipers on my 1976 Ti to get it on the road, but from next March I won't need too even though it has almost no brakes ! It will still be illegal to drive a vehicle which is not roadworthy but who will know until you have an accident. However...

Will plastic sump plugs be able to survive the cycle of heating and then freezing when the engine is off during cold weather for long, before they crack? As for modern technology. My 156 2.4 Jtd tried make me swerve into oncoming traffic the other day. I was driving along a straight road when the fr...
