Re: AROC Class B Alfasuds (Where are they now?)

It went pretty well - never the fastest boxer engined car but was well driven and quick enough to capitalise on others issues to get good results. It didn't get used very often. A good source of results and information from this era can be found in old AROC magazines (Gary will remember these) - the...

Re: AROC Class B Alfasuds (Where are they now?)

Nick Sismey's Sud got written off at Harewood Hillclimb - John was driving it and had a big accident (rolled several times).

Going back further:-

Phil Rowley - Sud Ti
Alan Marshall - Sud Ti (rebuilt into a 33)
John Liddle - Sud Ti (rebuilt into 33 'Partsbox')
Andrew Thorpe - Sud Ti (ex Napolina Dealer Team car)

There are others.....

Re: AROC Class B Alfasuds (Where are they now?)

Ted's car was Class C, then B - then owned and raced by Dave Thomas, then owned and raced by Ted once again.

The blue car referred to was Andy Steavensons - also raced by Paul Fasey.

The Sud with Sally Bishop was Nigel Cottee's - not sure where that ended up.

It'll be power at the flywheel calculated from the dyno load - 135 is very respectful though :-)

Re: Suspension setting / improvements

I hadn't factored in that you may be using different makes of tyres front to rear! Have you tried running the same front and rear? I know a tyre is a tyre but there is more to it than that. Are they all treaded or are some cut slicks? If it were me I'd be tempted to run the same front and back to ge...

Re: Suspension setting / improvements

If you are happy with the grip you get from the front then leave that alone as it works. Loosen the rear end - cheap way to prove it is increased tyre pressures until you can feel the difference. From there you can go stiffer springs, RARB, etc.

Re: Suspension setting / improvements

Lots of questions but not many firm answers as there are so many variables! To offer comment to a few:- We have run tubular wishbones for well over 20 years - the reasons for them are weight reduction and the wish to run rod ends/spherical bearings throughout. I don't recall any of ours having ever ...

Inboard and outboard discs on the front! Not sure why with only 180ps and still relatively lightweight, but certainly unique!

Hi Simon, decent coverage of the second race - I'm glad they caught your in-car 'round the outside' moves at Village - plus your 2 for the price of 1 re-shuffling of the Rover and Lotus Cortina :-)

Re: Big Valve Heads

With regards to big valves it's all part of a combination of the re-shaping of the ports and cam profile. Standard 1.7 engines went upto 40mm as mentioned above so for a similar size engine and fast road/rally/race cams larger valves are required - 40mm isn't enough to flow what the race cams and po...

Thankfully you don't have the complication of measuring underfloor plank thickness after each race :-)

Sounds like you both had eventful races - it all looks so straightforward watching it on TSL! I'll look forward to the in-car footage :-)

Good luck tomorrow!

Re: 1974 Alfasud Trofeo

I noted you'd got past Duncan on the last lap - I didn't consider it was via the pitlane! It's obviously a happy coincidence that your laptime through the pits (and missing out 'Club') was representative of your others (and not considerably faster - drawing attention to itself). Looking at TSL you h...

Were you doing full laps of Castle Combe - or variations with cone chicanes, etc? If full laps, what sort of laptimes?

I've got my own notes on Oulton from a 33's point of view - I'll type them up here during the week.

Here you go:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eIZVvnm7xg As I'm sure you found, it's very fast and (for us circuit racers) very bumpy on the way down to Quarry. I was getting airborne over the bumps and pulling 8200rpm in 5th on the run to Quarry last year. Of course, it's probably pan flat from a ...

Hi Simon, Well done on your Race 1 result - and shame about the puncture in Race 2. That said, as far as retirements go then something like a puncture is preferable to engine/transmission! Re: What's the deal with the Alfa Romeo Championship

Many years ago I made the decision to only race at circuits I enjoy - it's an expensive hobby anyway but even more so if you don't enjoy aspects of it. Falling grids (for all the reasons commented on above - and more) means less bargaining power for championships when it comes to getting good venues...
