Re: Another Italian project

Not driven the x for a while, it’s been sorn’d but the great weather yesterday and today meant I had to tax it and go for a drive. Took a bit of cranking to get it going but it ran well and felt good especially with the roof off. I’m going to move the x on if I can this year as the my GTV6 *should* ...

Re: Hey, NEG!

Had a positive chat with the garage and a plan is in place. They are aiming to get the car back to me by Christmas which is sooner than I expected. In fact it causes me a few issues as I have nowhere to keep it at the moment! The time scale will no doubt slip but it’s a positive step forward. There ...

Re: Hey, NEG!

Crikey time does fly. Short update. Not much has happened since my last post above, I talk every three months or so to the garage and knew they where suffering from too much work but things are in danger of getting out of control. The guy who was working on my car has left the company so they have m...

Re: Twin carbs

2 ensures both carbs butterflies are opening at the same time, 1 is the idle speed adjustment set on both carbs. You need the balance flow meter to ensue both carbs are drawing the same flow when adjusting it. And the same flow meter to adjust the bypass screw so the individual chokes on each carb f...

Re: Modern fuel and classics

A friend just pointed this out to me: “The majority of unleaded 95 Octane petrol sold in the UK contains up to 5% ethanol as required under the Government’s Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation (RTFO). There is currently no requirement for renewable fuel (such as ethanol) to be present in super unle...

Re: Modern fuel and classics

As far as I understand paraffin will break down over time and absorb water so i believe it won’t have any affect on the water absorption of ethanol. The recommendation is not to store paraffin for long periods in ‘open’ containers...same as the articles saying don’t leave E5/10 petrol in your tank f...

Acknowledgement to Paul Ireland of the MG T-Type club ( ttypes.org/ttt2/ ) for these excellent articles on classic engines and modern fuels. Whilst the test subject revolves around the...

Re: Another Italian project

I’ve not done a lot recently other than drive the X, but I have treated it to a new steering wheel! Fitted an earlier design from around 1982/84, much the same as the 70s cars. Amazing how much better it is than the none dished factory fitted item it came with. The car will have to live on the drive...

It’s nuts and I’m not sure sustainable. I bought an x19 earlier this year and have been monitoring prices, some prices that are being asked are just not realistic even for basket cases. Cars hanging around for months on end indicating the asking price is simply too high...the market will ultimately ...

I’ll have to eat my own hat, the holes where in the right place after all. I just needed to fit the cross member and mount loosely and twist the mount a touch so as the holes lined up! Got the wheel alignment done on the X a few weekends ago. As expected the front toe was out but so was the rear. The rear is adjustable but thirty years of rust and muck meant a bit of effort was needed to loosen things off a bit! https://s25.postimg.cc/8us675bbj/85_ACDDFC-0819-4_D9_F-_B852-_EB4_DE9...

Re: Another Italian project

Question of the day: when fitting new steering gaitor do you lubricate the inside before fitting? The correct answer to that is yes you should. Why? Well, when you have cleaned the steering arm and fitted the new rubber gaitor securing it tightly with a tie wrap to ensure it doesn’t leak you create ...
