Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Hi, I bought from the same company, I couldn’t remember their name until you posted it. U.K. engine parts. It was the address I remembered. I think have a set of used Nord shells machined down in the garage, I’ll check. If I can find them and you get stuck with finding genuine boxer shells I could s...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

The small print in this eBay ad suggest these are oversize. Don’t worry if ads state 1.4 and such like as the rod bearings are the same on all boxer engine sizes. Description doesn’t say Alfa so maybe do a part number cross check. Stick to Mahle, king etc brands https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1959416295...

Re: Twin carbs

Rolling road is the place to go, worth the cost overall. All my engines have purposely run just slightly lean, set up that way on the rollers for torque and power. A stumble on sub 3k revs could be too rich. Appreciate non of mine have been Road use so different circumstances. Just as an extra, are ...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Hi AoG, I think I posted this before in your thread, but I traded some new +4 1500 dished pistons with Dave Ashford at Brunswick Racing, he may still have them and might sell them (he took them to put on the shelf if ever needed for a road engine build, his race engines have his own spec pistons) I ...

Re: Who to rebuld an engine

Well, if you decide to stick with the old route, I have a set of new but std size 1500 dished pistons and rings already fitted to a set of good rods. No good for a rebore but if the block is good and just a hone is needed then it could be a plan B

Re: Rally Sprint

Well, I saw the Sprint again, this time when selling the Fiat 500 which looked lovely when finished. Was it a repeat show or a more recent one, I’ve lost track?

Also saw the Jensen Interceptor show, that looked incredible when finished, lovely colour.

Check this out for a grid, going out to qualify at Silverstone GP, 52 cars and some high powered and nimble stuff. Also some high powered point and squirt stuff that are super slow on corners.

Qualified 30th, finished 27th

Pic 3 is a Fiat x19

Pic 6 could be a consul classic or a consul Capri - based on colour I’ll go classic.

Re: Engine Oil

So long as it’s the right spec, yes. Just check the API and SN spec to be sure, but I’d use it. I think modern diesels started using the lower viscosities earlier than petrols so probably listed as diesel to stop someone using it in an older petrol? Kev will probably know best as he will have probab...

Re: Engine Oil

The oils that start at 0/and 5/are for modern engines where tolerances are more accurate, eg smaller gaps. I use 5/40 in the petrol Giulietta. Older engines are usually 10/ cos the gaps are bigger and it needs thicker oil at cold start. The higher number is for stability at high temps, hence I use 1...

Re: Series 1 ti's for sale

I had a good look round the white on in the pics, and in hindsight should have bought it.

It does need work like all of them but was equally very solid structurally and would be a very good base to start from and it didn’t look to have any hidden nasty bits.

Be a good base for a race car.

To think it is almost 50 years old, when I started driving in 1986 it’s the equivalent of having a 1938 car!

Re: Wheels and spacers conundrum

I think the tracking should be +1 not parallel. Don’t forget U.K. roads are crap, ruts and all sorts of imperfections. Wider tyres tend to tramline a bit more on poor surfaces. Doubt it’s the spacers, more the slightly wider tyres and poor roads. I’m running close to 40 offset on the racer, but gran...

Well, after a not so good 2022 season, I’ll be back at Cadwell first bank holiday weekend in May with the hscc 70’s road sports. Well, it’s probably worse Kev. All of the above but a basic fact is that real inflation hence costs/prices have risen way in excess of wages and personal income. My first race entry fee in 2000 was £135 for a 15 min qual and 15 min race (btw I thought £135 was a rip off and had expected £75 or so be...

I dont think today or Sunday will be any better Kev other than the rally cars outside. The 2 halls inside were fully set up, but an hour wandering around and you’ve seen it all. No under cover autojumble Very poor for the cost of ticket and travel. If going take your own food and drink, expensive is...

Went today, pretty disappointing, just 2 halls, 3rd hall for Silverstone auctions and another tenner to wander round that section. Autojumble outside on a gravel section, about 5 stalls. I think it would more desirable hence valuable If all std, but I reckon it would sell for a sensible price irrespective if solid and mostly rot free. More people can tinker with seats and engine swaps than can weld rot and restore body work.

Western politics works on emotion and outburst not logic, science and long term planning. Hydrogen, probably fuel cell to power the shift to leccy motors.
