Re: Twin carbs
When you are refering to 0.97 are you sure that it's CO your talking about or the Lambda reading, which has a threshold between 0.97 to 1.03 as a fast pass rate...
CO level for that car/year should be a max 3.5%, anywhere under 2% is decent.
Be sure what you are trying to achieve..

So glad for you mate, and it's a firm fix rather than a hope. But as ever it shows that electronics are a PITA! Easy if you know how I guess, the right bloke with the right knowledge and it's fixed. But that's the main thing, it's fixed! 8-) And at least you know the rest of the engine has been gone...

I was kinda on track with No3, in that the windscreen wasn't in view as the picture was looking down the bonnet not up towards the 'screen!

Re: Idle screw O ring
Pretty sure there won't be an O ring at the needle end, that's where the air bleeds through so it will simply fit into a tapered insert so as you wind the screw in and out it lets more or less air through, if there was an O ring at the bottom that wouldn't work well. The O ring at the top is there t...

Hi Phil, long time since we've seen you!
Was only thinking the other week about the old days when you did the 6C recreation and we all had more energy and enthusiasm! Hope you're well

Well, I'll join in, but I'm no use at this game although I did get the Mk1 escort!
The one with the duct, it looks like it's not a bonnet as I'd expect to see a windscreen in shot...so is that a cunning picture of some rear engined car with a scoop in the engine lid at the back?

Either the switch has a fault internally and has bridged contacts inside keeping power supply to the motor or similar has happened inside the motor Check the terminal at the motor, there should only be one wire with power to it for the self park function with the switch in the off position. If you h...

Most diesel specific oils will have a detergent in that's not in the petrol only spec ones, having said that a lot of grades will suit both. I don't tend to worry on my own stuff but the newer cars we get in from the likes of Enterprise and Lease hire companies we have to get the specific grade in f...

Nice looking mobile lift there, is it fairly sturdy and stable?
Guess it has pads or little arms that pick up on the sills?
What make/price are they?

And all these eco warriors who are saving the planet by creating these lithium batteries for cars at great environmental cost haven't actually worked out what to do with the old batteries as recycling them is very tricky and thus very expensive meaning very few companies will touch them, and even th...

Wise words Lauren, no point banging my head against the wall anymore, nobody is listening are they. Whatever we say or do will not change things a jot. The whole Chrysler thing is very much along the same lines, and actually a sticking point for me changing the Giulietta as a few Lancia club members...

Re: The end of Alfa as we know it
2 years ago almost to the day I wrote this title thread, and now it's true. On looking at the "new" Tonale recently at SAD I noted how it was very familar inside, almost exactly the same as many a Peugeot/Vauxhall inside. Although I couldn't see under the bonnet the listed engines look all too famil...

I once sold some like that, what I assumed NOS as were clearly very old but still useable. The complaint was that they were fake as the backing paper didn't have the correct lettering! As far as I was concerned they were the real thing, looked right enough to me and only sold for about £20. Still ha...

A few years back the then new owners of the Cafe on the yard where my unit is turned up with a Subaru adorned with what I thought to be a nice SUD number plate, so I asked him if he was into Alfas' in general..Cue blank looks :? When I asked if he owned a Sud Ti he laughed and said No, he didn't. Bu...

Last few jobs ticked off the list today and a quick ride around the block shows the gearbox is fine, having never used it I hoped it would be!
A wash and polish before SAD at Duxford once it's had a bit of running around and should be great for the summer.

Re: Valve stem oil seals
Lou, I had thought of removing the camshaft housing and camshaft together. Then removing the buckets. Leave the head bolts intact. Then figure out what tool I need to compress the springs. Quite a job, but not as bad as head removal? Also maybe remove the exhaust manifold, and see which cylinder is...

Well, the end is finally in sight! A few steps back that were unforseen. Self inflicted problem like the crank seal popping out when I had it running first off. That ruined the cambelt and made me wonder why.... On reflection and looking at a spare oil pump housing the seal should have been fitted f...

Indeed a bargain. Plus I got a set of rear discs and some front pads for a 156 V6 for just over a tenner, not that I have a 156 at the moment of course! Rusty bits I've seen on the GTV/Spider seem to be the usual suspects as mentioned, sills and floor lips. Rear jacking point box sections pieces etc...

I've heard people say about the Sud heater being useless but the ones I've had have been great, OK not up to modern standards maybe but perectly acceptable. There's several things that need to be correct before the heater can function as it should. The matrix needs to be clear and free flowing, as i...

Rack didn't hardly move at all Lou, I didn't strap it up at all. Track rod ends were still connected to hubs, maybe that helped, but it was still fairly secure. I did wait until the subframe was back on and rack bolted back down before doing the gaitors though. The subframe would be a doddle if it w...

Aim fior the day was to get the subframe back on and the engine/gearbox back up and plumbed in. Reality was that with a few distractions such as a guy looking over my Flaminia as a potential purchase I didn't get started until near 3pm! Subframe up is a bit of a faff whilst tryimng not to damage it,...

Any chips can be touched in the same as other paint methods but I've never had casue to, like most scenarios the detail is in the preperation.
