Turns out the cavitation holes I was worried about are present on the nearly-new 24v block too. Judging by the way the tiny bit of water I put in the holes doesn't go anywhere it appears the holes don't do anything, so they must just be from when the block was cast: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v...

Thanks Lou, could be interesting to see :) I reckon just fitting an extractor at the lowest part of the sump followed by a remote filter, cooler and single stage external pump feeding back through the normal oil filter fitting would do it, but even the cheapest external single stage pump is about £5...
