Philip,
wecome back to Sud ownership!
And a very nice looking car too.
Which, I think looks just fine on its current wheels!

Valve stem oil seals

I've got smoke on start up. 95 bhp engine
Four good compression figures.
I suspect valve stem oil seals.

Is it possible to replace these with the heads still on?

Somehow compress the springs?

A guy on you tube does it on a Pinto ohc engine with a special tool.

Re: My 916 Spider

Am I right in thinking they have to stiffen the shell on a Spider to avoid shake?
If so, can you see any evidence of extra stiffening whilst you are under it?

I just wondered how corrosion resistant 916 Spiders are.......floors/cills etc.

As I fancy having one...........sometime!

Loads of bolts, but no studs.
Try Just studs.

French are on strike as their pension age is going up from 62- 64 !

Cheeky buggers.

We don't resort to strikes in this country.

Re: Blanking plate

The S1 three instrument cluster has 4 holes for fixings.

My S2 cluster doesn't have any fixing holes! Its jammed in with a bit of cardboard.

How were these fixed originally? Maybe I need to drill 4 holes?

Re: My 916 Spider

Call me old fashioned, but its blasting then paint for me. I always thought of powder coating as a decorative finish........and quite pricey too. Hammerite, or POR15 if I'm feeling flush. Then I can repair any damage with the same paint. I met a guy who worked for RR Aerospace at Barnoldswick, Lancs...

Powder coated suspension components are likely to get chipped?

I would be interested to know how the coaters recommend repairing stone chips?

Re: Sud rear brake pressure limiting valve

I just fitted a brake bias valve.
Screwdown adjustment.
I put it near the master cyl for easy access and keeps it away the road dirt.
Compbrake do them reasonably priced. Made in UK, so they say.

Re: Stiff steering

Got the car supported and TRE's off. Realised I had stripped them down and fitted new bearings/gaiters etc a few years ago. Memory fading with age! Both struts free turning. Rack turns nice and light. Maybe I think the steering is stiff because I often drive my wifes Mazda 2 with finger light steeri...
