Re: Front caliper leak /swap sides
I got no where with finding the correct size seals , I ended up using atf fluid instead of brake fluid just in that side calliper , seemed to do the trick.

Re: Torque steer
It does seem very harsh over potholes, as if the front shocks are sticky at the top of there travel ,especially accelerating from a stop , as if it's to light at the front, topping out . Better with the chubby missus in , but I prefer driving alone lol

Torque steer
I feel like I have to pull off more gently than I would have thought normally necessary to avoid torque steer ! Especially as it's only the 1351cc ,is there any thing that could be worn out that contributes to this ? Ta

Floor Matt's
Anybody use car Mats? Are the supposedly made to measure floor Mats any good ? Or am I best cutting thick rubber ones to shape. My carpets worn away just where my heel rests after 140000 miles .

Re: Dashboard glare
It's not really the glare from the dash it's that the dash is reflecting in the window ! It must be the perfect angle , read somewhere to sandpaper the surface but that sounds a bit extreme, I'll try different materials placed on it , maybe black felt or wet,n,dry sandpaper.

Cut out on brake pads
I understand the way the pads go in ,but just wondering if the knife shaped cut out has a purpose ? And why the pads have to go in a certain way? Bit random ,but it's gone quiet on here since I'm getting no serious problems to post . Oh speedo still ticking even though I greased inner cable thouroug...

Re: New Sprint owner but definitely not new to Alfas!
That photo of the interior makes me realise my accelerators been bent away from the brake pedal ,which I'm glad of ,as I still sometimes hit it when meaning to brake! Be nice to be able use the resting pad next to the clutch also ,I wonder if that can be bent across?

Re: Cold engine warning light
I'd quite like one even though I don't need it also ,as im very mechanically sympathetic! I bought a supposedly alfasud thermostat off fleabay ,but it had 88 stamped on it , now temp gauge reads just over half instead of just under, but the heaters really hot now, so that's welcome ,and I've got a s...

Re: Hissing 5th gear
Cheers that's ok then I can put up with it,it's only in 5th , I was always told you shouldn't rest your hand on gear lever because it would wear the internals,so I was worried that's what was happening ,but I guess that's when the lever is directly fixed to the selector rods .

Not a whine but more of a hiss ,and I've only just discovered if I pull the gear lever to the right against the spring action it goes off ! Do they all do this ?

Which light is supposed stay lit until engine is warm? As I don't see any lit , I had the clocks out to grease the speedo cable inner because it keeps ticking , and noticed there was an empty bulb holder top right of the cluster! No picture of anything on the front so maybe it's supposed be empty? S...

Re: Inner CV boot
Yes it seems ok otherwise maybe I've just never noticed the gear lever jumping about before ,I knew I'd have trouble tapping the joint back on in situ, just no room then bearings all falling out.

Re: Inner CV boot
Simple job turned into a nightmare ! With all the bearings dropping out I had to clean the grease out then assemble and regrease but mustn't have greased enough. Hence the driveshaft joint locked and the hub wouldn't lower, but I didn't realise this till after I'd forced the hub down 4 inches with a ...

Re: Temp gauge high
Yes that hole plugged with no thermostats ,cooled it till my thermostat arrives it makes all the water go through the radiator and not through that rubber pipe that goes across the top of the engine ,for once Haynes is right, the fans never kicked in so that thermo switch must be kapute, I'll wire a...

Re: Temp gauge high
Still running high ( 3/4) but wondering if having the thermostat out may make it run hotter as there's a hole in the housing that might be the by pass hole and maybe this needs to be blocked when the thermostat opens fully ?

Is it normal for the outer edge wear more than the inner? When you're driving like a loon around bends etc, I've also noticed them squealing on supermarket car parks when driving slowly, but heard other cars do this to! To give more toe out I guess the track rod end has to do a full 360 turn ,no sli...

Should the bolts be tightened as tight as possible so all the suspension movement is taken by the rubber bushes twisting , or should they be slack enough so the metal bush moves around the bolts? I'm guessing tight , and the rear arms rubbers seem a lot firmer than the front arms is this how they sh...
