Non return valve at the tank has done the trick for me. Priming the pump is the real issue. It's not really up to dry operation to drag the fuel back up hence the prolonged cranking after a layoff.

Rear shocks don't seem to be a problem. Fronts are almost impossible to track down, compounded by the fact there are several variants with different fitments. Thanks John. Yes, I've read a few old posts on this forum which tracked the cars history and previous owners which has been quite interesting.
