Re: Valve guides

I can't explain why your guides are knackered, however I'm a bit confused as to why they are brass. As far as I know they should be cast iron inlets & bronze exhausts (same as on V6). Later engines have cast iron at both locations as the bronze guides wore out early (same as V6). All this from memor...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Hi, yes i intend to fit inlet guide seals - I already have those, but I wonder whether the same seals will survive the higher temp of the exhaust guides & whether its worth fitting them to the exhaust guides as they will be new so should be oil tight. I'm on the hunt for guides, John @ Justsuds is n...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Hi folks, Below are some photos of something you are all familiar with. Other than cosmetic improvement, the only repair work has been new quarter shaft seals & bearings, courtesy of Ian Brookfield, new selector shaft seal & new "sump" plate gasket. The box is on foam to avoid scratching the sump wh...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Thanks guys. I'll post an update next week with pics. The block is back from AMS and a fine job they have made of it. Engine has been effectively blue printed. As for bills.............it's embarrassing really. I'm completely off my head........think of the max market value for a mint Sprint then do...

Re: Slow gearchange

Chris, I recommend Mobilube 1 SHC which is 75/90 & fully synthetic & has been around for years. I used it in my Alfetta GTV6 transaxle which had a very slow, baulky, second gear synchro. Using SHC transformed it, be warned SHC smells evil and it isn't good for your skin - wear Nitrile gloves. Around...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Hello everybody, I'm back. Gearbox inspected for fuzz on mag plug & bits of busted synchro teeth on bottom cover. All clear so it's all closed up. New quarter shaft bearings and seals fitted plus selector seal. I'm using Mobilube SHC oil as it transformed the gear change in my GTV6 transaxle. Only m...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Hi folks, Time for a laugh! You will perhaps recall that somone with a large magnet (I won't say who) insisted the bumpers were not SS, even though I was pretty sure they were/are. After SIX visits to the copper plate & chrome plate tanks the platers have given up trying to chrome the bumpers. With ...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Stesco, thanks. I managed a quick visit to AMS to discuss the engine. All the crank journals are out of round, two main bearing journals have slight scoring, one of the conrod journals is scored significantly. Crank regrind circa £180 inc VAT, then bearings on top. I think they need +.2 for the conr...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Hello all, I won't go into depth, this isn't the right place & you don't need to know. I have had to suspend all work on my Sprint until further notice as further criminal allegations have been made against my son by his ex. Funding a top flight defence lawyer is more important, even though what's b...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

V675 thanks for the steer on bearings. AMS have a regular customer who races Alfas & apparently he spotted my engine in their workshop & said if they needed anything to give him a call. He obviously doesn't read this forum or he would know it's my engine. If he's racing he probably knows about King ...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Thank you, very kind. I'll see if AMS get anywhere. I forgot to mention that the plating shop are having trouble with the bumpers. Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Quick update. Due to the full application of sod's law a rather large bill appeared at the same time as I had to find money to engage a defence lawyer in connection with my son's divorce which has turned very ugly. I could get 9 man hours at the body shop for what 1 hour with a lawyer is costing :( ...

Some more pictures showing the underfloor fuel & brake lines. I couldn't find the original 3 position pipe clips anywhere, but obtained 4 position clips with the correct sizing from an ebay seller in Lithuania. At the front, the pipes have been rerouted to the most favourable position. The old pipes...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Hi V675, Yes, you did post before :) The engine is now at AMS, so i'm awaiting their assessment. The +.6 pistons I sourced from Greece are usable, but the second compression rings have lost their profile. So it all depends on how far the rebore has to go and what size pistons are needed........I'll ...

Oil fill pipe removal from rear cover

Is it possible to remove the steel oil fill pipe from the alloy rear engine cover? It appears to be pressed in BUT it's also possible that one of the rear cover studs is screwed in far enough to hold the pipe in place.

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

They can also sort out the crank if required. It was interest...

Kev, Yes it's very stable & sturdy, rated at 2.7 tons. Made in China, to a UK spec, but not the usual rubbish; the quality of the welds is very good. It has arms that can swing and pads that slide along the arms. Purchased direct from Automotech, current price is £1350 so not cheap - you can buy sim...

Re: SPRINT RESURRECTION

Not a lot of news on the engine. I managed to obtain a set of used oversize pistons complete with con rods from an Alfa garage in Thessalonika for a fair price should a rebore be necessary. They are as good as new (the same place had new oversize pistons too). As ever, time is the challenge plus I h...
